More than a dozen Oakdale Gators youth swim team standouts improved times in all three of their events at the Mid Valley Swim League championships in Turlock on Saturday, July 24. It was a satisfying way for the 15 members of the team to culminate the summer campaign.

The sharp times also led Oakdale to a sixth place finish out of eight highly competitive league programs. In all, four Gator swimmers earned recognition as top-five high point swimmers in the all-day extravaganza.

“The best stat is the list of 15 swimmers who improved times in all three of their events,” Oakdale coach Brian Fogarty said. “This is a very rare occasion and very impressive. Awesome meet to end the season.”

Emily Bennett was the lone Gator to snare top high point honors after big wins in the 11-12 division. She was the highest scoring swimmer with 23 points in that division.

Brandon Terwilliger snared 25 points to take second in the 15-16 division while Haley Rivera was third among 7-8 girls at 20 points. Jack Kjeldgaard also nabbed 15 points to finish fifth among six-and-under boys.

Fogarty noted that the Gators’ strongest improvement came from a 13.27-second upgrade to Maya Lyda’s 50-meter breaststroke. Kendal Houck also brought her 25 breaststroke time down 10.24 seconds.

Bennett, Houck, Kjeldgaard, Rivera and Lyda all saw big improvements in their marks, and were joined by new personal bests from Madison Blanc, Cameron Elswick, Sienna Gonzales, Haley Hayes, Juliette Leibenson, Kinsey Ollis, Alyssa Redd, Hanna Rivera, AJ Torres and Bianca Varela.
