Double digit honors for the Oakdale football team, with the recent announcement of Valley Oak League gridiron selections. The announcement was made just a couple of days after the Mustangs claimed the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III football title with a 27-23 win over Inderkum.

Oakdale head coach Trent Merzon was named as Coach of the Year by his VOL coaching counterparts, while senior Frankie Trent was tapped for the league’s Most Valuable Player honor.

Oakdale was also well represented on the first and second teams, with the following selections: First-team offense: Running Back — Darus Nelson, junior; Offensive Line — Jon Carmelich, senior.

First-team defense: Defensive Line —Landen Ichord, senior.

Second-team offense: Quarterback — Adam Olsen, junior; Running Back — Brock Whiting, senior; Center — Dalton Stewart, senior; Offensive Line —Louis Marsella, junior; Zac Cordoza, junior.

Second-team defense: Defensive Line —Nick Ruiz, senior; Wyatt Hjelm, senior; Outside Linebacker —Christian Johnson, senior; Defensive Back —Tyler Flores, senior.
