Golf Boys Stay Busy With Preseason Play

Members of the Oakdale High School boys golf team had two events this week. The squad competed in the 18-hole Yellowjacket Invitational and hosted Sonora in a nine hole non-league match.

On Monday, March 11 the boys headed to Patterson’s Diablo Grande Golf Course to battle in the Yellowjacket Invitational and competed against 23 other teams. Oakdale finished fifth overall with a score of 359. Seniors Calvin Reed and Tristan Jaramillo made the trip and placed first and second on the team. Reed tied for fifth overall in the tournament with a score of 81. Jaramillo was two strokes behind Reed at 83.

Underclassmen made up the other three Oakdale golfers that made the trip. Grant Weber (95), Rocky Richardson (100) and Jordan Goodman (104) rounded out the day for Oakdale.

On Wednesday, the Mustangs knocked off visiting Sonora 257-210. Led by sophomore Ryan Meyer’s 37 in the front nine, Oakdale won their fourth match of the year. Jaramillo placed second on the day with a score of 41. Reed finished with a score of 43. Also scoring 43 on the day was Ryan Wheatley. Wrapping up the day for the Mustangs were Weber (46) and Goodman (57).

Monday, March 18 the team was slated to travel to Turlock to play in the Crosstown Cup, an 18-hole event at Turlock Golf and Country Club.
