William David “Dave” Thompson, 77, passed away on June 6, 2025, in Reno, Nevada. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Dave lived a life defined by service, craftsmanship, and curiosity.
Born on August 9, 1947, in Oakdale, California, he was the son of Thomas Thompson and Etta Marie Reynolds. Dave grew up with a strong sense of duty and an inventive spirit that guided both his military and professional paths. In 1966, Dave enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served as a Staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War and completed three tours of duty between 1966 and 1970. His courage and dedication were honored with two Bronze Stars.
Following his military service, Dave pursued a career designing and building firetrucks for Van Pelt and Grumman. His work played a vital role in enhancing public safety across the country. Later, he applied his skills to the design and fabrication of Mobile Mini Storage buildings.
Dave was active in several organizations including the Masonic Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and Oakdale JC’s. He enjoyed building model airplanes, exploring military history and genealogy, fishing, reading, and playing cribbage.
He is survived by his wife Linda Michael Thompson; daughters Stella Roper and Jullie Bennett; grandchildren David, Katie, Mia, and Liam; and great-grandchildren Ethann, Evalynn, and Rose. He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Thompson; mother Etta Marie Reynolds; brother Darrell Thompson; and sister Marie Brown.
A memorial service was held in Reno on June 10 at Sierra Memorial Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held on September 13, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Knights Ferry Community Club, 17601 Main St., Knights Ferry, CA.
William David “Dave” Thompson will be remembered for his strength of character and enduring devotion to those he loved. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
