Virginia Romeo. 98, passed away on Tuesday June 13, 2023 in Oakdale where she called home for the last 20 years. Born on November 9, 1924, Virginia was one of three children born to Walter and Christine Hurst of Dover, Indiana.

Virginia picked cotton as a child but when she was old enough, she packed up and moved to Hayward, California. While working at Hunts Tomato Plant, Virginia met and then married Mr. Anthony “Tony” Romeo. They built themselves a duplex in Hayward and a cabin in Lake Tahoe. Virginia got her GED and went on to become a hairdresser. Virginia lost Tony to Leukemia in 1977 and vowed to never marry again. She kept that promise and years later moved to Oakdale to be closer to family.

Virginia is survived by two nieces, Regina Troutman of Indiana and Alma Jean Pulliam of Oakdale, a great niece Dana Chavez, a great nephew Anthon Pulliam, and two great-great nephews Tyler Perchert and Anthony Berry, all of Oakdale. Virginia will be entombed next to Tony at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, California. Virginia’s Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 29 in Oakdale.
