Shirley passed peacefully into her heavenly home on March 3, 2023 with family members by her side. Shirley, the daughter of Queenie and Charles “Ralph” Halstead, grew up in the Modesto/Riverbank area and graduated from Downey High School. She went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State and worked for the Riverbank School District as a school nurse for 30 years.

Shirley married Iain Cullen in 1963. After moving a few times, they settled in Valley Home in 1977. Together they had one daughter. A devout Christian, Shirley attended Modesto Covenant Church for many years, participating in bible studies and volunteering at Vacation Bible School for several summers.

Shirley had a kind, helpful spirit. She enjoyed gardening, activities with family and friends, riding horses and being outdoors. She had a special affection for animals of many kinds. After retirement, Shirley volunteered at the Oakdale Animal Shelter as a dog walker.

Shirley is survived by her husband Iain and daughter Carol Myers (Glenn). Shirley was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. A graveside service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson on March 16, 2023 at 1 p.m.
