  Patrick Edward Brecht, 70, formerly of Oakdale, died Wednesday, Sept. 9 in Boise, ID, where he’d lived for the past three years. He had suffered from a long struggle with dementia.

He was born in Fresno.

In his youth, he had a passion for competitive driving and racing Corvettes.

Mr. Brecht worked for Lucky for 40 years, retiring at age 55. He continued working for Nabisco another five years.

He married his wife Rita in 1971 and they moved to Oakdale shortly after, where they lived for 30 years before moving to Idaho.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a fourth degree Knight and served two terms as Grand Knight.

He enjoyed working on his property in Oakdale and fishing in the Sierras.

He is survived by his wife, Rita of Boise, ID; daughter, Debbie Foreman of Boise, ID; son, Mike Brecht of Oakdale; and brother, Joe Brecht of Hayward.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Marge Brecht; and brother, John Norman.

A memorial mass will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Oakdale. A celebration of life will follow at Mike’s house, 211 No. Oak Ave., Oakdale.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to your preferred charity.
