Patricia Alice Hadlich Hass, 90, died Sunday, June 26 after a short illness at Doctors Medical Center, Modesto.
She was born in San Rafael to Beulah and Johann ‘John’ Hadlich. She graduated from Manteca High School in 1934 and went to work as a nurse’s aid at one of the first hospitals in Oakdale. She lived for a time in one of the two Victorian homes on South Third Avenue in Oakdale.
She married her husband Bob on her birthday in 1940. They made their first home in Oakdale where their first daughter was born in 1942, later moving to Richmond where her husband worked in the shipyards during the war and later as a body and fender man. After the birth of their younger daughter in 1946 they moved back to Oakdale where her husband owned and operated Bob’s Body and Fender Shop.
Mrs. Hass worked at Hunts Cannery, Cloverland School Cafeteria and at Andy’s Radio and TV. She worked for Andy (Glenn Anderson) for many years, going out on service calls, testing tubes and selling radios, TVs and records in the store.
She was a member of the Methodist Church in Oakdale. She volunteered at Oakdale Community Sharing. She was also a Camp Fire Girls leader for many years.
She loved to work in her yard and to can and make jelly from the fruit from her trees. She was especially proud of her avocado tree, which produced many buckets of fruit over the years.
The family especially appreciates RNs Bob and Rose who attended her at the hospital.
She is survived by her son, Larry (Jackie) Hass; daughter, Eva Hass; grandchildren, Jennifer Hass, Jason (Melissa) Hass, serving in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan; one great-granddaughter, all of Modesto; three nieces; and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lewis Hass; daughter, Terry Hass; sister, Leah Menefee; and niece, Elsie Hess.
Private graveside service on Saturday, July 2.
