Joseph Joaquin ‘J.J.’ Ponte, Jr., 60, of Modesto died Tuesday, Aug. 3 at Memorial Medical Center. He was a native of Oakland and had lived in Oakdale from 1965-1973 before moving to Modesto.

Mr. Ponte served in the U.S. Navy.

He worked as an LVN for Casa de Modesto and was also a phlebotomist.

He was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia ‘Ginny’ Ponte of Modesto; son, Joseph J. Ponte, III; sister, Charlene Barnett of Oakdale; brothers, John Ponte of St. Helena; Steven Ponte of Antioch; mother, Charlotte Ponte of Oakdale.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13 at Oakdale Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, also at the chapel. Committal will be with Military Honors at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery at a later date.
