John Kearns, 54, died Monday, Aug. 15 at his home in Pine Grove.
He was born to Henry and Jo Ann (Andreas) Kearns in Butte, Mont. His family moved to California when he was six years old.
He started working after school at age 12 at a nursery. He graduated from Oakdale High School in 1975 and then continued his education at Fresno State, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
When he was 20 he moved to South America to be with his parents while his dad was working there. He went to work with the Good Year Tire Company in Brazil becoming a tire man. After graduating from Fresno State College he went to work for PG&E in Sacramento. In 1998 he was transferred to the Tiger Creek Hydro Power in Pine Grove.
Mr. Kearns enjoyed fishing and boating with his children. He enjoyed scuba diving, especially at Glass Beach. Cozumel and Aruba are a couple of the locations he traveled to just to go diving. He introduced his parents and siblings to scuba diving and recently his daughters were certified.
He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his companion, Lisa Matranga of Pine Grove; daughters, Nicole Kearns, Kimberly Kearns; son, Daniel Kearns; parents, Henry and Joann Kearns of Valley Home; brother, Randy Kearns of Riverbank; and sister, Janice Kearns of Modesto.
No services, per the family’s request. Inurnment will be in the Valley Home Cemetery.
