Howard David Dean, 85, died Tuesday, Oct. 5 at Oak Valley Care Center.

He was a native of Vallejo. He lived in Oakdale 18 years.

Mr. Dean served in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army.

He was a rigger at Kaiser Steel for 23 years.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Dean of Oakdale; children, Patti Jeffries, Theresa Gassaway, David Dean, all of Oakdale, Catherine Neff of Texas, Julia Detwiler, Joseph Holbrook, both of Napa; sister, Alice Lauthridge of Florida; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Virginia Lica.

A funeral was held Oct. 9 at Oakdale Memorial Chapel. Burial was at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Santa Nella.
