A longtime Oakdale businessman and ardent community supporter, Hans H. Boggs, passed away on Monday, Jan. 31 after a short battle with cancer. He was 80 years old.

Born in Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland, he was a longtime resident of Oakdale and was the owner of Boggs Services & Oakdale Credit Bureau.

Mr. Boggs was committed to community service. He was active in the Masons. He was a Master Mason, Past Master, and a two-time recipient of the Hiram Award, and a devoted Shriner. He frequently served as the Masons representative in presenting a new bicycle and helmet to Oakdale elementary students with perfect attendance.

And as his family members say, “Hans never met a stranger.”

Mr. Boggs also said he enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in all heir endeavors, often providing funds for a variety of activities because, he noted, “you can’t take it with you.”

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Agnes; children Keith (Debra), Karen (Britt); and grandchildren, Hans, Evan, Reece, and Emma Claire.

Per his wishes, there will be no public service.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in his memory to the Hans H. Boggs Memorial Youth Scholarship Fund, 1556 Sun River, Oakdale, CA 95361.
