Eleanor C. Santos, 91, died peacefully on Saturday, July 2 in Modesto.
She was born to Anton and Louise Anthenian on their farm in Evergreen, Calif. She attended Evergreen Elementary School.
She was a cook and housekeeper for the Coe family and enjoyed taking dance lessons at Arthur Murray. She was introduced to the love of her life, Kenneth Santos, by her friend LuVina Kidder. She married Kenneth on Oct. 2, 1953, at the First Congregational Church, Santa Cruz. She and her husband lived only a few miles from her birthplace.
Mrs. Santos enjoyed cooking, canning and planting an extensive vegetable garden. She and her husband prepared very special barbeques and dinners. The couple enjoyed many adventures, ranging from Jeep trips to the desert, recording the sounds of steam engines climbing a pass at midnight, growing together in their relationship with Jesus Christ, and rafting down the Rogue River in her mid-70s.
After moving to Oakdale with her daughter Darlene and son-in-law David, they enjoyed many day excursions in the Sierras, the Central Valley, and having family gatherings. She also enjoyed the friends she made, in more recent years, at Orangeburg Manor.
She is survived by daughters, Deborah (George) Drummond, Darlene (David) Shaw, Kathleen Santos Bunch; and 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Kenneth; parents; two sisters; and three brothers.
Her family will celebrate her life, private memorial service has been held.
