Edward C. Freeborn, 67, died Friday, Aug. 21 at his Oakdale home after a battle with lung cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

He was a Marine veteran.

In his early years, he worked for Shell. He then became a manager for Thrifty, where he met his wife Mary. Later, he worked as an insurance agent for United Insurance. For the last several years, he owned his own tax preparation business along with his wife.

He was an avid outdoorsman and could always be found fishing, hunting and camping throughout California, Colorado, and Montana with his family, friends, and beloved Labradors by his side. He was a proud member of Ducks Unlimited, California Waterfowl Association, and the Old Fishermen Club.

He was an inspiration to those who knew him because of his integrity and honesty.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; son, Mark; daughters and their husbands, Jeannette and John Borgman, Joleen and Jon Eakle; granddaughter Kailee; sister, Katherine; brother, Robb; nieces, nephew, godchildren Jordan, Brooke and Mikayla Wong; along with many other loved ones and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alan E. Freeborn and Ruth Freeborn.

No services, per his wishes.
