Donald Lee Jones, 64, died Tuesday, Aug. 3.

He was born in Bakersfield and lived in Oakdale most of his life. He attended Oakdale High School and was a star hurdler on the track team.

He had a great passion for music and taught himself to play the guitar, bass, and blues harmonica. He played in rock bands throughout the Central Valley for over 40 years. When he wasn’t playing in a band, he was looking to start one. Most recently, he played the bass and sang in the worship band at his church. What he loved most was to have his family gathered around while he played guitar and sang.

In his own words, he was “a Christian man who loved rock and roll.” His great joy in life was his family and church family.

He was an outdoorsman who loved fishing, hiking, camping, and traveling. He had a great sense of humor, a fun-loving spirit, and a mischievous streak. He was a simple man who lived his life in his own unique way.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Janie; mother, Helen Jones; brother, Rick (Rachel) Jones; sister, Ruth (Don) Bradley; daughters, Nanette (Todd) Cordoni, Dawn Jones, and Stephanie Jones; five grandchildren, Christin McGinnis (Scott), Breanna Snow, Tayler Greer, Emilee Jones, Brandon Layton; and one great-grandson, Zachary McGinnis.

He was preceded in death by his father, Allen J. Jones; and brother, Joe A. Jones.

A viewing was held Aug. 8 at Oakdale Memorial Chapel. A funeral service was held Aug. 9 at Bethel Assembly of God.
