Dale R. Sloan, 81, died Friday April 15 in Oakdale.

At age 18 he joined the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of sergeant. He met his sweetheart, Delores, and they married in 1952.

Mr. Sloan first started working for Birds Eye Vegetables in Hillsboro, Oregon, eventually transferring to the General Foods Modesto site in 1967. He retired from General Foods in 1986, working for the same corporation for 36 years.

He and his wife moved to Oakdale in 1988 from Modesto.

He was a former member of the Oakdale Golf and Country Club.

He was an avid golfer and loved to fish. He loved to work crossword puzzles, loved his cats, and his family. He was known for his golf – having made four holes-in-one, his stories, sense of humor, and love for his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Delores; son, Doug (Shirlee) Sloan; daughter, DeAnn (Kevin) Bauche; granddaughter, Cheri (Jim) Dixon; grandson, Rusty Bauche; and great-grandson, Gavin.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 21 at Lakewood Funeral Home, Hughson.
