Christy was born in Oakdale to Alton (Bud) Rieger and Dorothy Palmer Rieger. They brought her home to their house in Valley Home, CA where she attended grammar school and Oakdale High School. She met and married Sam Smart also of Oakdale in 1972. They had two sons, Clif and Steven. Christy worked at the Hershey Plant in Oakdale for many years then moved to the Sierras holding various jobs including, two of her favorite at the Dodge Ridge Ski Resort and Dardanelles Resort. Christy loved living in the Sierra mountains where she was active in skiing, hiking, and swimming. She spent the last few years in Columbia so she could enjoy the mountain life year-round.
She is survived by her sons, Clif Smart (Tina) of Enumclaw, WA, Steven Smart (Jandee) of Red Bluff, CA; sisters, Karen Gonzales (Gabe), and Cindi Medlen (Steve), all from Oakdale; three grandchildren, Mckelvy Smart, Jayden Dyer Smart, Kesler Joe Smart, and one on the way.
