Carl W. “Bill” Allen, 70, died Wednesday, Aug. 17.
He was the son of Mary (McMath) Allen and Gordon W. Allen of Oakdale. He attended Westside Grammar, Oakdale High School and graduated in the class of 1959. He achieved many academic honors in his years at Oakdale High School.
He attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. While finishing up at Cal Poly, he wed Marilyn Spaman in 1962.
Mr. Allen completed his Army ROTC training and served two years of active duty with the NSA in Washington, D.C. After his Honorable Discharge from the army, he returned to Oakdale and began a career with PG&E. He advanced rapidly and acquired a law degree from Humphries University and passed the State Bar on his first attempt. He became one of 13 professional Electrical Engineers and Lawyers in the United States.
He made his home in San Francisco for the last 40 years. He traveled extensively in Asia where he met his current wife Le Thinh. After retiring from PG&E, he split his time between Vietnam and the U.S.
He is survived by his wife, Le Thinh; daughter, Michelle Allen of San Francisco; son, Matthew Allen of Oakdale; sister, Joann (Allen) Plymale of Paso Robles; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Oakdale Memorial Chapel, 830 West F St., Oakdale.
Per his request, remembrances may be made to The American Cancer Society or Hospice.
