Hi everyone. I hope you each have had a very good week. It was a great week for our high school football team. Our town is a football town … especially Friday night high school football. Our Oakdale Mustangs traveled out of town last Friday night to play Vista del Lago. We are so proud of our Mustangs for bringing back the 49-17 win. Thank you to our great coaches and to each of you who come out to support Oakdale High School sports.

Our Oakdale Thunderbird, Technical Sergeant Wyatt Bankus, has left Canada and this week, the Thunderbirds are in Maryland at an Air Show at Joint Base Andrews. Sgt. Bankus has been busy the last few weeks: Ohio, Canada, Maryland … so much more to come.

This week we send congratulations to our good friend and neighbor Steve Guerrero. We are excited to share that Steve has been promoted to Assistant Fire Marshal with the Stockton Fire Department. His wife, Lisa, and daughter Annie are looking forward to having him at home nights now. They will miss the firehouse visits … Lisa and Annie love visiting the firehouse. This weekend they surprised Steve and his crew with a beautiful cake that said “Congratulations Daddy” … Annie is very proud of her daddy. Congratulations from all of us, Steve.

Our Fire Board meeting was well attended, always so much information shared. We deeply appreciate our Fire Board members who work so hard on our behalf. Although we look forward to the day we have more staffing at our Valley Home station, it is great to see our firefighters at our Valley Home firehouse more often now.

This past weekend I had a wonderful time at my 56th High School Class Reunion. It was a combined reunion between Manteca High School and East Union High School. The Class of 1969 … we all started together on the campus of Manteca High School and two years later a good portion of us started our junior year at a brand-new campus on Union Road in Manteca: East Union High School. It was there that we shared many firsts … we formed strong friendships, we voted for our school colors, created our ‘Fight Song’ and elected our student body officers. Also, our cheerleaders and song leaders were there as we fielded our first EUHS football team; other sports and a great FFA followed. More campus clubs soon came. It was a special time in our lives. This past weekend at a beautiful golf course in Manteca, our Manteca and East Union Class of 1969 came together once again after 56 years. Although each of my grandchildren have graduated from our amazing Oakdale High School (with the exception of my little Miss Millie, who is an OHS freshman) I still enjoyed touring the 2025 version of my alma mater. It was a special weekend for me for sure. I can tell you this, though, my heart definitely belongs here with our Oakdale Mustangs!
