This past Wednesday was a very exciting day for Jett. For those who may not know, Jett Trunnell is 14 years old and is fighting a tough battle against a very aggressive cancer.

On Wednesday, November 12, our Modesto Fire Department and our Oakdale Police Department turned Jett’s day into a “dream come true.” Making this day even more special was Oakdale City Council member, Jarod Pitassi. We are so very thankful for Valley Home’s very own Lisa Guerrero, as she worked really hard to make this special day happen for Jett. The day started at 1:30 p.m. on North Third Avenue near Jett’s mom’s business, Boutiques at Tiffany’s. Jett’s face lit up as that big red fire engine rounded the corner. Under his protective face mask, a very excited Jett smiled a most handsome and happy smile. In anticipation of this very important ride along, our firefighters had washed and polished Engine 27 to perfection. It was an amazing sight to see Jett riding shotgun on Engine 27. Those gathered nearby cheered as the shiny red engine drove out of sight. Our firefighters made sure Jett got to try his hand at handling the fire hose … full throttle. The firefighters made sure this day was perfect, each forming a special bond with Jett.

A very important part of this day was Oakdale Police Officer Andy Stever, who took Jett on an exciting ride along in the police vehicle. During their time together, Officer Stever and Jett formed a friendship. Knowing that Jett loved old coins and two-dollar bills, Officer Stever made sure Jett’s day was even more special … he treated Jett to a coin from his favorite shop. What a tremendous day it was for Jett. We are all so grateful to everyone who made this day such a wonderful reality. It was a day of complete happiness for this very deserving young man. Jett returned the next morning to Stanford where he was to undergo several days of chemotherapy. Jett is a very special young man; he has good days and bad days and he is fighting this battle with amazing grace. Jett and his family send a heartfelt thank you to all who made this day possible, with special thanks to good friend Lisa Guerrero.

This week I would like to remember a very special Valley Home woman. Audrey Rinna lived a wonderful life; a life of great appreciation and love for everyone she knew. Living in Valley Home for over 80 years, she was especially close to her family. Audrey lived her entire life right here in Valley Home and she holds a special place in the hearts of our community. Audrey was always ready to help with each event in our town, especially our beautiful little community park. A few years ago, Audrey was Grand Marshal of our Valley Home Christmas Parade. After heading up the parade, Audrey lit the Community Christmas Tree … it was the most magical night.

Upon Audrey’s passing, many folks have made contributions in Audrey’s memory to the little park she loved so much. We would like to say thank you to each of you who have made a donation to the park in Audrey’s memory. You are deeply appreciated.
