Though Modesto gas prices have risen just a penny per gallon in the past week, it’s likely the prices will be on the rise as we move into summer.

Pump prices around Modesto averaged $4.12 per gallon as of Monday, June 14, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 201 stations in Modesto. Gas prices in Modesto are 15.7 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand $1.29/gallon higher than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $3.75/gallon on June 14 while the most expensive was $4.49, a difference of 74.0 cents per gallon. The lowest price in the state as of Monday, June 14 was $3.31/gallon while the highest was $6.29, a difference of $2.98/gallon.

“We’ve seen the national average gas price continue to inch higher as oil prices have reached $71 per barrel, the highest since 2018, as gasoline demand continues to rebound,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. “Strong gasoline demand as states and cities reopen will likely continue to be a major factor keeping gas prices elevated even as oil production climbs in the months ahead. With most additional supply being gobbled up very quickly, gas prices will likely stay at elevated levels for the foreseeable future. Motorists can continue to fight the high gas prices by remembering to shop around each time they get below half a tank.”

The national average price of gasoline has risen 1.6 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.07/gallon on June 14. The national average is up 3.7 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 97.7 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $4.08/gallon, down 7.1 cents per gallon from last week’s $4.15; Oakland - $4.28, down 1.9 cents per gallon from $4.30; and San Jose - $4.26/gallon, down 1.1 cents from last week’s $4.27/gallon.
