SEPTEMBER STORM
9-3 Storm

After the Labor Day holiday on Sept. 1 brought triple digits to the area, the overnight hours into Sept. 2 featured some light rainfall, thunder and multiple lightning strikes. This photo shows smoke from one of the many fires touched off, along with lightning streaking across the sky, taken at a location northeast of Oakdale. Fires prompted some evacuation warnings in Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties and many evacuations were ordered in neighboring counties throughout the day, as firefighting resources including ground units, dozers, air attack and more were utilized. The largest fire in this area was east of Milton Road and Sonora Road, in Eugene, impacting both Stanislaus and Calaveras counties.
