Scouts convene to place flags for Memorial Day
US Flag

Area Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will be out in force on Saturday, May 25 at the Oakdale Citizens Cemetery. The scout troops are gathering at 9 a.m. Saturday to tackle the task of placing small American flags on the graves of veterans buried at the cemetery on East J Street.

There are over 800 veterans at the cemetery and anyone interested in helping the scouts with placing the flags are welcome to join them on Saturday morning.

There is a plan in place for the scouts to use, breaking down the cemetery into sections with a list of what graves need the flags.

The flags will be in place throughout the long Memorial Day holiday weekend, staying there through the formal observance on May 27. The flags, in fact, won’t be taken down until Tuesday evening, May 28.

The cemetery is at 701 E. J St.; volunteers are welcome to help with the project.
