Knights Ferry was the site for the annual Salmon Festival earlier this month, hosted on a sunny Saturday and drawing a huge crowd to the small community along the Stanislaus River. Put on as a cooperative effort by several groups, there were multiple informational booths and displays, the chance to create colorful fish print T-shirts, merchandise vendors, food and beverages, live music and more. Also featured at the Nov. 8 event was Spirit, a 17-year-old bald eagle, who lost her left wing, shot when she was just a year old. She has served in an educational capacity since her rehabilitation. Also, the crowd had an opportunity to enjoy the storytelling of Sonora resident BZ Smith, who has spent five decades telling tales.
