Approximately 300 elementary school children from throughout the county – including several from Oakdale schools – are gearing up for the 27th Annual Elementary Science Olympiad. The competition is slated for Saturday, May 3 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Walnut Elementary Education Center, 4219 N. Walnut Road, Turlock. The awards ceremony begins at 3:15 p.m. at the school’s outdoor amphitheater.
This year’s event is sponsored by the Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE) and the Education Foundation of Stanislaus County. The following elementary schools are scheduled to participate, listed in alphabetical order: Cloverland, Dennis Earl, Fair Oaks, Fremont Open Plan, Grayson, Great Valley Academy, Hickman Charter, Hughes, Julien, Keyes, Magnolia, Our Lady of Fatima, Sierra View, and Walnut.
Events will include Can Race; Catapult; Crime Busters; Disease Detectives; Don’t Bug Me; Elements; Knock, Knock Who’s There; Mystery Architecture; Paddle Boat; Rock Hound; Simple Machines; Starry, Starry Night; Straw Egg Drop; Straw Tower; Treasure Hunt; Weather or Not; and Write It-Do It.
