Members of the Oakdale City Council voted unanimously Monday to appoint interim City Manager Jerry Ramar to the permanent role following a nationwide search.

The council approved Ramar’s appointment and employment agreement during a special meeting on July 28. The agreement, effective immediately, includes a four-year term with an annual salary beginning at $247,277 or $20,606 per month, and provisions for standard city benefits, including retirement contributions and allowances for technology and transportation.

Mayor Cherilyn Bairos acknowledged the council’s efforts in the hiring process.

“We had kind of a little lengthy couple of weeks,” Bairos said. “It was nice to go through the process, and I thank the Council for that.”

Council Member Christopher Smith emphasized that Ramar’s performance during interviews set him apart.

“We made the selection because you interviewed above and beyond the other candidates, not because of familiarity, not because you were already here,” Smith said. “So nice job. And thank you.”

Ramar, who has been serving as interim city manager for several months, expressed gratitude for the opportunity.

“The last few months have been challenging and fun,” he said. “I’ve learned a lot, and I look forward to working with the council and city staff. I think it’s going to be a great time, and there’s a lot of hard work that’s going to be done.”

The appointment passed 4-0 with Bairos, Smith and council members Kayleigh Gilbert and Jeff Kettering also voting in favor. Councilman Jarod Pitassi was not in attendance at the special meeting.
