‘Once Upon A Tomb’ program taking shape
TOMB CAST

Now just about a month away, the second edition of ‘Once Upon A Tomb’ is shaping up, with organizers hoping for another successful fundraiser.

Proceeds of the walking tours that will introduce attendees to several notable figures from Oakdale’s past will benefit the Oakdale Citizens Cemetery, where the event is being staged. Cast members will perform monologues and engage with the audience at the gravesite of the person they are portraying.

This year’s Once Upon A Tomb – Tales From Beyond is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4 and tickets are available through Eventbrite.

“We are really excited about the upcoming event, which features all new characters, as well as some familiar and new faces bringing those characters to life,” the Once Upon A Tomb committee members noted in a statement regarding the program. “The event is a great combination of history and entertainment, which appeals to a wide variety of people. It’s also a fun night out to celebrate the fall season.”

Walking tours begin at 6 p.m. and leave every half hour throughout the evening, with the last tour leaving at 9 p.m.

Each group has a tour guide, and travels to several different gravesites throughout the cemetery on East J Street in Oakdale.

Tickets are $25 plus an online processing fee; to purchase tickets, go to eventbrite.com; search events: Once Upon a Tomb; and set the location to Oakdale.

Returning cast members, portraying new characters this year, will be Jacob Boss as Jackson Burns, Ray Leverett as Thomas Roberts, Rudy Skultety as Frances Marion Cottle and Derick Sturke as A.J. Patterson. New cast members and their characters this year are Colleen Hawks-Pierce as Gladys Clark, Marg Jackson as Tomasa Giffith and Jozie Velasco as Annie Cottle.

“Those of us here at Once Upon A Tomb hope that you will enjoy hanging out in a cemetery for the evening as much as we do,” committee members said.
