A pair of Oakdale Junior High School students, Joseph Yakligian and Carter Franca, represented Oakdale Joint Unified School District well in the recent Junior High Spelling Championship sponsored by the Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE).
Both seventh graders earned respectful honors as Joseph was named Champion of his grade level, while Carter earned a Gold Medal.
The event was held on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at the Martin G. Petersen Event Center. Scott Kuykendall, Stanislaus County Superintendent, served as the Spelling Master and 21 volunteers served as proctors. Thirty students from 21 schools participated in the event.
Joseph will now represent Stanislaus County at the State Championship in San Rafael, CA on May 2, 2020. Some words the champions spelled correctly were: plenipotentiary, testaceous, agglutinated and obeisance.
