Oak Riv Fire Calls

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, June 27 through Monday, July 3. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, JULY 3

Battalion 2: 3:44 p.m. – Engine 9, Quint 22, and BC2 responded to a vehicle accident on Milnes near Wellsford Road. BC2 arrived on scene and found a single motorcycle rider down with major injuries. Engine 9 provided ALS and the patient was transported to an area hospital.

Battalion 5: 3:34 p.m. – Brush 28, Grass 27, Grass 26, Water Tender 27, and BC5 responded mutual aid to San Joaquin County for a vegetation fire. Crews found a fire that had jumped to Stanislaus County from the original fire. Additional resources were requested to the Stanislaus County side (Brush 1, Brush 15, Grass 21, Grass 19, Brush 23, Water Tender 23, Utility 17, and Chief 3) were added to the response. Chief 3 established unified command with SJ County. Crews contained the fire in Stanislaus County to less than two acres. Crews worked on the main fire until 7 p.m.

10:52 p.m. – Grass 29, Grass 27, Grass 26, Brush 23, Water Tender 23, Water Tender 27 and BC5 responded for a fire in the Knights Ferry area. On scene we had a roadside vegetation fire in heavy fuels. Crews quickly contained the fire and mopped up the area.

 

SUNDAY, JULY 2

Battalion 2: 9:03 p.m. – Engine 26 responded to a vehicle accident at Patterson/Terminal. On arrival a total of three patients were located. E7 was requested to assist, a total of three ambulances were used to transport all parties.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

12:51 a.m. – Brush 28, Grass/Water Tender 27, Battalion 5 and Cal Fire Engine 4462 to 26 Mile Road, cross of Dorsey for a vegetation fire. Crews arrived on scene to find a quarter-acre fire in light flashy fuels. Firefighters contained the fire to a half-acre and had the fire mopped up in an hour.

1:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. – MST units responded to four EMS calls for service at Woodward Reservoir.

6:08 p.m. – Engine 28, 29 and Battalion 5 responded to Woodward Reservoir for a boat accident. Upon arrival, crews found two jet skis had collided on the water with two patients. One refused treatment and the other was transported with minor injuries to a local hospital.

 

SATURDAY, JULY 1

Crews performed weekly station maintenance and monthly duties.

9:24 p.m. – B12 and Battalion 1 were dispatched to assist Escalon Fire District with a vegetation fire threatening structures in the 21000 block of East River Road. A request was made for additional resources from MST, which brought E7 and Grass and Water Tender 27. Battalion 1 was assigned as structure group and all MST resources were placed in that division. The fire was extinguished with no damage to the structure. Crews remained on scene for a couple hours assisting with overhaul.

Battalion 2: Several people came by the fire stations taking advantage of the loaner program for life vests.

9:58 p.m. – E9 was dispatched to the 4700 block of Terminal Avenue for a vehicle fire. On arrival a well involved vehicle that had multiple exposures was found, the call was upgraded which brought E26, E23/WT23, Q22 and BC2. E9 was able to control the fire without further spread, E23/W23 was continued for water, the rest of the balance cancelled.

Battalion 5: Engine 27 performed pumping drills in preparation for the upcoming Engineers Test.

12:29 p.m. – Engine 27 and Battalion 5 to West F Street for a vehicle into a wall. Crews arrived on scene to find a driver’s foot had slipped off the brake and the vehicle hit the wall of a building. The driver was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

2 p.m. to 6 p.m. – MFD units responded to five medical aid calls at Woodward Reservoir.

7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. – Grass 29, Battalion 5 and Cal Fire Engine 4462 stood by during the fireworks shoot at Woodward Reservoir. Several small fires were extinguished during the shoot.

11:15 p.m. – Engine 3, 26, Quint 22 and Battalion 5 to Briarcliff in Riverbank for a potential structure fire. Crews arrived on scene to find a vegetation fire behind the structures. The fire was contained to a 50’ x 75’ area. Crews were on scene for 45 minutes for mop up.

 

FRIDAY, JUNE 30

Crews trained with probationary firefighters preparing for their upcoming test.

1:41 p.m. – Modesto E27 and BC5 responded to North Stearns Road and East F Street for a vehicle accident. E27 arrived on scene and found a motorcycle down. Both riders were treated for minor injuries and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

6:25 p.m. – Modesto E28 and BC5 responded to the 1000 block of Townhill Avenue for reports of a patient down in the orchard unresponsive. Crews arrived on scene and found a patient unresponsive. Crews began life saving measures. Crews worked for over 30 minutes before contacting an emergency room physician and efforts were ceased. Law enforcement responded to assist family members.

 

THURSDAY, JUNE 29

Battalion 2: Crews prepared for an upcoming Captains test.

Online training and station maintenance were completed.

Battalion 5: 3:07 p.m. – Modesto Grass 27, Water Tender 27, Engine 28, Engine 29, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries at Highway 4 and Milton Road along with Cal Fire due to reports of the accident causing a vegetation fire. Upon arrival there were two vehicles involved with powerlines down and approximately 15 acres of grass on fire with a moderate rate of spread with one structure threatened. There was a total of three patients with minor injuries that were transported by ground ambulance to local hospitals. The fire was contained to 50 acres without damage to structures.

 

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 28

Driver Operator 1B class continued at the Regional Fire Training Center.

Battalion 5: Companies conducted a prefire plan of Kerr Park in the City of Oakdale.

 

TUESDAY, JUNE 27

Driver Operator 1B class continued at the Regional Fire Training Center.

Battalion 5: 5:57 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27 and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with reported entrapment on East F Street. Engine 28 arrived to find two vehicles involved with negative entrapment (uninjured). OPD remained on scene for the investigation.
