The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, July 15 through Monday, July 21. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, JULY 21
MST Companies performed weekly apparatus and equipment maintenance.
Battalion 2: 6:30 p.m. – Engine 24 and Battalion 2 responded to a reported shooting at Basso Bridge Day Use Area involving two victims. Engine 23 was dispatched for support, but upon arrival, E24 found minor injuries and canceled additional units.
Battalion 5: 2:27 p.m. – Brush 27, Brush 28 OES4615 and BC5 were dispatched to a vegetation fire at Woodward Reservoir. Upon arrival, Brush 28 found a 10-by-20 spot of grass that had ignited most likely by an unattended campfire. Crews extinguished the fire and cleared the scene.
SUNDAY, JULY 20
Battalion 2: Crews are still patrolling the fire in Waterford along the Tuolumne River.
4:07 a.m. – Engine 21 responded to a fire near Finch and South McClure, finding a vegetation fire about 2.5 acres in size. Brushes 1, 3, Grasses 19, 23, Water Tender 23, and Battalion 2 aided in containment. The cause is under investigation.

Engine 27 restocked life jackets at Woodward Reservoir, Orange Blossom Recreation Area and Knights Ferry.
Brush/Water Tender 27, Brush 28, OES 4618, Grass/Water Tender 23 and Battalion 5 responded to 28-Mile Road for a vegetation fire. Crews arrived on scene to find a series of small fires in a field that were quickly extinguished. After a search of the area, the cause of the fire – a mylar balloon – was located.
SATURDAY, JULY 19
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Engine 27, Engine 28, and Engine 29 trained on hose stretches and rural water supply.
FRIDAY, JULY 18
Battalion 2: 2:34 p.m. – Engine 26 responded to the 2800 block of Glow Road. E26 arrived after Oak Valley Ambulance to find a subject in cardiac arrest. Oak Valley and Stanislaus Consolidated provided ALS care and assisted with transport to a local hospital.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Engine 28 trained on TDA signoffs.
12:17 p.m. – Engine 29 and Battalion 5 to Woodward Reservoir for a vehicle vs. a structure. Crews arrived on scene to find a vehicle had hit the entrance station to the reservoir. None of the passengers or Park Rangers were injured. Firefighters secured the power to the structure. CHP is investigating.
4:21 p.m. – Engine 27 to Haven Street and Vintage Circle for a vehicle fire. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a fire in the passenger compartment of a pickup. The fire was quickly extinguished with no damage to any structures. The FIU was notified.
THURSDAY, JULY 17
Battalion 2: Quarterly boat and swift water training continued at the inlet to Turlock Lake.
The fire along the Tuolumne River in Waterford remains active. Crews dedicated additional hours to suppression and mop-up operations. Challenging terrain and limited accessibility have complicated firefighting efforts.
10:15 p.m. – Engines 23, Engine 24, and Battalion 2 responded to a two-vehicle accident at F Street and Dorsey Street in Waterford. E24 arrived first and found three patients with minor injuries; all received ALS care and were taken to local hospitals. E23 assisted with patient care. Waterford Police Department is investigating.
Battalion 5: 8:05 a.m. – Engine 28 responded to a report of a vehicle into a building on F Street in Oakdale. Upon arrival Engine 28 found a truck that had crashed into the Ford Dealership and in doing so took out a major steel support column of the business that covers the drive thru area of the lot. This triggered a response for the Modesto Fire Department’s technical rescue team. Truck 5 and Rescue 11 responded to the scene. The crews on this apparatus are specially trained to shore up structures that have been structurally compromised. Crews constructed a shore comprised of materials and tools on Rescue 11. The building was stabilized, and all crews cleared the scene. The driver of the vehicle was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
4:55 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 26, Engine 28 and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident on Highway 108 and Snedigar Road in Oakdale. Crews arrived on scene and found three cars that had collided. There were three minor injuries with two patients being treated at local hospitals.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 16
Battalion 2: 5:16 p.m. – Brush 24, Brush 28, Grass/Water Tender 21, Grass/WT 23, Grass/WT27 and BC2 responded to a vegetation fire in the 300 block of South Appling in Hickman. The fire was located on the south side of the Tuolumne River on a steep riverbank in heavy vegetation. The fire burned just over an acre and was quickly contained. Crews remained on scene completing mop-up for three hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Battalion 5: Water Rescue 28 participated in boat training at Turlock Lake yesterday. Crews trained on Live Victim Throw Bags, Live Bait Rescues and Boat Operations.
TUESDAY, JULY 15
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
9:04 a.m. – Quint 22, Brush 24, Grass 27, Water Tender 27 and Battalion 5 responded to a report of flames near the bridge on Albers Road.
Engine 23 and Engine 26 trained on rescuing a downed firefighter.
Battalion 5: Crews performed apparatus checks and station maintenance, company level training in their respective FMA’s and completed Target Solutions assignments.
Battalion 5 companies logged on for the monthly MST Briefing.
Engine 9 along with E12, E2 and Truck 5 participated in probationary training, focusing on Rope Rescue systems and Salvage and Overhaul.
