Oak Riv Fire Calls

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, July 4 through Monday, July 10. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, JULY 10

Battalion 2: Two members of the department began Paramedic School today as part of a FEMA Grant. The goal is to have 10 members certified by the end of 2025.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Engine 27 trained on ground ladders in preparation for their Probationary Firefighters 10-month test.

 

SUNDAY, JULY 9

Battalion 5: 7:20 a.m. – Grass 29 and BC5 responded to the area of Willms and Cooperstown roads to assist CalFire TCU for black smoke in the area. G29 arrived and found a car fire with no threat to surrounding vegetation. G29 assisted Engine 4486 with extinguishment and overhaul.

9:26 a.m. – Engine 27, 23, BC5 responded to Warnerville Road, east of Emery Road for a vehicle rollover. Assisted Oak Valley with packaging a patient for air transport. The patient was flown out by Contra Costa Fire Air 2.

3:17 p.m. – E29, Water Rescue 28, and BC5 responded to Woodward Reservoir for a male that went under water and did not resurface. Stanislaus Sheriff, Modesto Fire, Reach 2 searched for over 60 minutes. SO determined the call to be a body recovery and not a rescue at that point. All Fire units cleared, and the scene was turned over to SO.

 

SATURDAY, JULY 8

Battalion 2: Station 26 performed maintenance on the old Riverbank Engine.

7:14 p.m. – E26 responded to the report of a vehicle accident at Santa Fe and Callander. On arrival two vehicles were found, one rear ended the other. Two elderly patients were trauma activated and transported.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Engines 27, 28 and Battalion 5 did pre incident walk throughs of local target hazard buildings.

1:35 p.m. – Engine 27, 28 and Battalion 5 responded to Cleveland Avenue for a vehicle accident. Upon arrival, firefighters treated and packaged one patient with minor injuries.

1:532 p.m. – Engine 27 to River Avenue for a natural gas leak. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a 1.5” natural gas line that was severed by digging a stump out. Crews remained on scene until PG&E arrived on scene and secured the line.

 

FRIDAY, JULY 7

Battalion 2: 5:35 p.m. – B24, B23/WT23, B28, G27/WT27, G29 and BC2 responded with Cal Fire to a vegetation fire on J59 near Cooperstown Road. On arrival Cal Fire reported three fires totaling 15 acres. All units were assigned to the fire which totaled 85 acres before forward progress was stopped. G29 and B28 were released, the rest of the units were on scene until 10 p.m. assisting in mop up.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Battalion 5 ensured proper coverage was maintained throughout the MST response area while both Battalion 2 and Battalion 5 units were assisting Cal Fire with a vegetation fire in the area of J59 and Cooperstown Road.

 

THURSDAY, JULY 6

Battalion 5: Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 conducted company officer training with a focus on wildland incidents, tactics, and strategy.

7:25 a.m. – Modesto Engine 28 and BC5 responded to an EMS call on East I Street in the City of Oakdale. Engine 28 located an elderly patient in cardiac arrest; after nearly 40 minutes of CPR the patient was declared deceased by a local emergency room physician

 

WEDNESDAY, JULY 5

Battalion 2: 5:49 a.m. – Engine 28, Brush 24 and BC2 were dispatched to a fire in the 5000 block of Tim Bell Road. While responding three more units were added. Crews arrived to find approximately five acres of grass involved. The fire was contained at just under nine acres. The cause of the fire was a goose that had struck the power lines in the area. PG&E was working with the property owner to restore the power.

Battalion 5: 9:09 a.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Stanislaus Grass 26, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries at Langworth Road and Claribel Road. Grass 26 arrived on scene with a vehicle vs. semi-truck with the three occupants of the vehicle suffering minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

11:31 a.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries at Valley Home Road and North Yosemite Avenue. Engine 28 arrived on scene of a vehicle vs. pedestrian with patient care already being rendered by an off-duty firefighter. The patient with major injuries was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital.

10:49 p.m. – Modesto Water Rescue 28, Engine 29, and BC5 were dispatched to a water rescue at Woodward Reservoir for a report of five people trapped on an island and no way to make it back to shore. Boat 28 located them on an island in Duck Cove and safety brought them back to shore.

 

TUESDAY, JULY 4

Battalion 2: 4:46 a.m. – Engine 23, Engine 27, Quint 22, and Battalion 2 responded to a vehicle accident with pin-in on Claribel at Bentley Road. Two vehicles were involved with one patient requiring extrication. Two delayed patients were transported to area hospitals. CHP is investigating.

10:05 p.m. – Grass 26 responded to Greger and Kaufman for a vegetation fire in Oakdale

Battalion 5: Crews responded to numerous, grass, fence, and trash fires though the shift.

5:08 p.m. – Water Rescue 28, Water Rescue 29, Engine 27, and BC5 responded for the report of two boaters stranded in the Stanislaus River. Both boats were launched and quickly contacted the victims and brought them back to shore, uninjured.
