Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 5-7-25

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, April 29 through Monday, May 5. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, MAY 5

Battalion 2: Crews completed Monday apparatus maintenance.

4:45 p.m. – Quint 22, Grass 21, Grass 19, Grass 26, Brush 15, Brush 24, Water Tender 21, Water Tender 23, and BC2 responded to Codoni Road for a vegetation fire. Units quickly stopped forward progress and controlled the fire at two acres.

Battalion 5: Crews completed Monday checks and station maintenance.

6:42 a.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries on Warnerville Road. Engine 28 arrived on scene of a solo vehicle accident and checked on injuries. One patient sustained minor injuries.

6:02 p.m. – Engine 3, Engine 7, Engine 9, Engine 11, Engine 27, Quint 22, Medic 1, BC1, BC5, and FIU responded to a report of a residential working structure fire in the 6000 block of Panda Way in Riverbank. Engine 27 arrived on scene with nothing showing and confirmed the fire had been extinguished. The responding balance was canceled.

 

SUNDAY, MAY 4

Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Engine 21 and Battalion 2 pre-planned the Mitchell Road bridge area in preparation for the upcoming wildland fire season.

Engine 23 completed area familiarization in the Crabtree Road area outside of Waterford.

Battalion 5: Crews performed daily apparatus checks and station maintenance, in addition to company level training in their respective FMA’s.

Crews completed assigned Target Solutions assignments.

Battalion 5 companies provided resources and coverage during a two-alarm fire.

Engine 27, Engine 28 and Engine 29 conducted a multi company drill in a two-story residential over commercial focusing on hose estimation and ladder placement.

Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 29, and Battalion 5 attended the charity softball game featuring Oakdale PD vs. Modesto FD. Money raised at the event was to benefit the Oakdale Baseball and Softball Association. Specifically, to provide scholarships for children to be able to play in the OBSA.

 

SATURDAY, MAY 3

Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Battalion 5: Crews performed daily apparatus checks and Saturday station maintenance.

Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s and completed assigned Target Solutions assignments.

WR28, WR29 and E23 performed water rescue training in Knights Ferry above the covered bridge. Crews practiced ferrying, rescue techniques and pick off moves to get ready for the upcoming summer season.

Engine 27, Battalion 5, MFD Chiefs and MCFFA 1289 attended “Coffee with the Firefighters” at the Refuge Coffee Company to kick off the Morning Market season in Oakdale.

Engine 28, Engine 27, Quint 22, and Battalion 5 were dispatched to a potential structure fire in the 200 block of Cheyenne Court in Oakdale. Engine 28 arrived on scene of a single-story home with light smoke in the interior. Upon further investigation crews found burnt food on the stove and were able to quickly remove the pot with no extension into the residence. One patient was evaluated at scene with smoke inhalation. Crews remained on scene for roughly 30 minutes to ventilate the structure.

 

FRIDAY, MAY 2

Crews rotated through Station 22 for quarterly EMS training on ALS and BLS skills.

Battalion 2: 6:15 a.m. – Engines 9, 23, and Quint 22 were dispatched for a solo vehicle accident with a pin-in. There was one vehicle with significant front-end damage and one person pinned in the vehicle. E23 provided ALS care to the patient until Oak Valley Ambulance arrived. The patient was extricated in 21 minutes and transported to a local trauma center. CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus, equipment and station maintenance.

Companies rotated through quarterly EMS training. Topics covered include policy updates, medication administration and review of c-spine procedures.

Engine 28 trained with Boat 28 on the Stanislaus River. Training focused on getting new drivers certified to operate the unit.

1:27 p.m. – Engine 27, Water Tender 27, Brush 28, Battalion 5 and Escalon Engine 1-4 to Freelove Avenue in Valley Home for a vegetation fire. First arriving crews found trees, grass and bushes on fire in front of a structure. Two spot fires were also found behind the residence. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire to one-eighth of an acre, with no damage to any structures. Firefighters spent the next hour and a half mopping up. Crews welding across the street started the fire. The FIU was notified.

 

THURSDAY, MAY 1

Battalion 2: Personnel rotated through Station 22 for quarterly ALS and BLS EMS training.

Quint 22 worked on the engineer signoffs for rope rescue operations at Station 22 during a break from second-quarter EMS training.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus, equipment and station maintenance.

Companies rotated through quarterly EMS training.

Engine 28 trained with Boat 28 on the Stanislaus River. Training focused on getting new drivers certified to operate the unit.

10:46 a.m. – Engine 28, Engine 29, Quint 22 and Battalion 5 to Highway 108/120, east of Lancaster Road for a big rig overturned with pin-in. Engine 29 arrived on scene with a big rig on its side with the diver still inside. Crews were able to quickly extricate the driver, as Firefighter/Paramedics treated the patient for minor injuries. Firefighters were able to stop a minor fuel leak, with only a half-gallon of fuel spilled. Crews remained on scene assisting CHP and Caltrans.

 

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30

Crews completed RT-130 (Wildland Refresher Training) at Woodward Reservoir.

Battalion 2: Crews completed apparatus maintenance on Water Tenders and Water Rescues.

3:27 a.m. – Engine 1, Grass 21, and BC1 responded to Tioga Drive for a vegetation fire that was quickly controlled.

Battalion 5: Crews in Battalion 5 trained in their respective Fire Management Areas on various skills and completed various station maintenance projects.

Crews in Battalion 5 got caught up on their Target Safety solution assignments.

Battalion 5 participated in the annual Cal Fire Training at the Baseline Fire Training Center. All BCs in MST attended to go over tactics, Unified Command, and fire simulations in preparation for the busy fire season ahead.

12:51 p.m. – Engine 9 was dispatched to a report of a dog that was in the canal on Milnes Road. Upon arrival E9 found a dog that could not get out of the canal and was exhausted clinging to the side. They were able to rescue the pup and animal control took custody of the cold, tired but uninjured pup.

 

TUESDAY, APRIL 29

MFD Fire Administration hosted a badge pinning ceremony for Battalion Chief Jair Juarez, Fire Captain Giancarlo Telesco, Engineer Jacob Tietjen and Engineer Drake Vizcarra.

First floor construction was completed on the new training tower at Fire Station 17.

Battalion 2: Crews rotated through RT130 training at Woodward Reservoir.

Crews caught up on Target Safety solution assignments.

10:43 a.m. – Engine 7, Engine 27, Quint 22 and BC2 responded to a potential structure fire on Dobbins Lane in Riverbank. Crews checked the house for the smell of smoke and turned it back over to occupants once it was deemed safe.

Battalion 5: Crews in Battalion 5 trained in their respective Fire Management Areas on various skills, completed various station maintenance projects and got caught up on their Target Safety solution assignments.

Engine 29 and Engine 28 participated in and helped put on the annual RT 130 Wildland training. This year the training was held at Woodward Reservoir. Crews trained on mobile attack, progressive hose stretches and donning protective fire shelters in a simulated burn over.
