The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Jan. 27 through Monday, Feb. 2. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, FEB. 2
Battalion 2: Crews completed weekly engine checks.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 companies completed weekly apparatus and equipment maintenance.
SUNDAY, FEB. 1
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 companies completed mandated web-based training.
T1, E4, E19, E21 and BC5 conducted Captain’s training, focusing on strategic and tactical considerations for high-rise and commercial building fires.
SATURDAY, JAN. 31
Battalion 2: Saturday drills took place across the battalion today ranging from practicing hose pulls to pumping multiple lines.
Battalion 5: 2:24 a.m. – Early into Saturday morning an impaired driver left the roadway and crashed through a shed and into a mobile home on Eleanor Avenue just west of Oakdale. Crews arrived on scene to find the driver uninjured. Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies were also on scene with the driver.
4:51 a.m. – Engine 28 responded to a vehicle accident. When crews arrived on scene, they found a vehicle that had driven off the road and hit a power pole causing wires down. The occupant of the vehicle had fled the scene.
12:28 p.m. – Engine 28 responded to a vehicle fire on Sonora and Milton roads. On arrival they found a car well involved in fire. The fire was extinguished in a few minutes and CHP was called for further investigation.
FRIDAY, JAN. 30
The MST Firefighter Academy continued with training evolutions. Today’s training focused on forcible entry techniques.
Battalion 2: Engine 26 and SCFPD Fire Prevention attended Riverbank High School career day.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 attended the monthly BC training along with all other on duty BCs at Station 22. The topic for the month was responding to an active shooter/multi casualty incident. The chiefs reviewed the procedures and coordinated tactics that will be used to mitigate this type of emergency.
THURSDAY, JAN. 29
Battalion 2: Crews completed exterior station maintenance across all stations today.
2:26 p.m. – Engine 26 stood by while PG&E fixed a gas leak on Santa Fe Street in Riverbank.
Battalion 5: 7:48 a.m. – Engine 27, Engine 26, Quint 22, and Battalion 5 responded to the report of an injury accident with pin-in at Oakdale Waterford Highway and Alvarado Road. Engine 27 arrived on scene to find one vehicle on its roof and established the Alvarado IC. One patient was out of the vehicle and checked by Oak Valley Ambulance on scene and released. The remainder of the response was cancelled.
Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s, completed mandated Target Solution assignments and conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Engine 29, Engine 27, and Battalion 5 conducted training focused on Engineer pumping evolutions and hose stretches.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 28
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s.
Crews completed mandated Target Solution assignments and conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Engine 29 conducted weekly checks and station maintenance at Station 30 in Valley Home.
Engine 11, Engine 27, BC5 and Modesto Fire Admin Chiefs attended Mayor Cherilyn Bairos’s State of the City Address in Oakdale at the Gene Bianchi Center.
TUESDAY, JAN. 27
Battalion 2: Engines trained on working fire scenarios in a rural environment.
Battalion 5: Engine 28 and Engine 29 conducted Engineer’s training in Oakdale.
5 p.m. – Engine 27 and Battalion 5 responded to the 6100 block of Eleanor Avenue in Riverbank for a report of a female that fell off a horse. E27 arrived and found a female down in the roadway with trauma to her head. E27 provided ALS care, the patient was transported to a local hospital.
