The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Feb. 17 through Monday, Feb. 23. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, FEB. 23
Battalion 2: Crews rotated through training at the RFTC and completed Monday apparatus inspections.
1:15 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine 7, Truck 5 and Battalion 5 responded to a potential structure fire on Rocky Lane in Riverbank. Upon arrival crews found a faulty stove that was the problem. The power was secured to the stove and all units cleared.
2:59 p.m. – Engine 26 was enroute to an EMS call and came upon a vehicle accident with injuries at Atchison and High Street. They called for an ambulance and rendered aid. Another MST resource was sent to the EMS call.
Battalion 5: Fire crews in Battalion 5 conducted their Monday station maintenance and weekly apparatus checks.
SUNDAY, FEB. 22
The Technical Rescue Team trained on shoring to stabilize damaged structures.
Battalion 2: SCFPD crews focused on Battery Maintenance in all portable equipment (radios, Sawzalls, Lucas, etc.).
Battalion 5: Crews conducted Engineer’s training.
SATURDAY, FEB. 21
Battalion 2: Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District crews participated in Company Level Drills across the District. The Engine 26 drill focused on Apartment Stretches.
FRIDAY, FEB. 20
Battalion 2: Crews attended the final day of first-quarter EMS training at the RFTC.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment maintenance.
Battalion 5 companies attended Quarterly EMS training at the RFTC.
12:57 p.m. – Engine 28 and BC5 responded to a medical aid for a subject in cardiac arrest. Crews arrived to find the patient in full arrest and began initial patient care with Oak Valley Ambulance. The patient was pronounced deceased on scene after 20 minutes of resuscitative efforts. OPD officers assisted on scene.
2:25 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, Engine 23, Medic 1 and BC5 responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on Highway 4. Engine 28 arrived to find three vehicles involved with the roadway blocked and began to check for injuries. Crews provided initial patient care with Oak Valley Ambulance. Three ambulances transported five patients from the scene to local emergency rooms. One subject was declared deceased on scene. CHP is investigating.
3:03 p.m. – Engines 9, 26, Truck 1, and Battalion 2 responded to the 300 block of Cella Court in Oakdale for the smell of natural gas. E9 was the first to arrive and located a small toy with an overheated battery causing the odor in the house. The toy was removed, and the house was ventilated. The balance of the response was canceled.
5:04 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, Truck 5 and BC2 responded to a potential structure fire in the 5800 block of Pleasant Valley for a chimney fire. Engine 28 arrived at scene and began to investigate. Crews found a chimney fire (extinguished) with negative extension.
THURSDAY, FEB. 19
Battalion 2: Crews rotated through Quarterly EMS Training at the RFTC.
Crews trained in IO’s, Epinephrine administration, and CPAP.
Battalion 2 met with multiple crews to go over Electric Vehicle incidents and working with Law Enforcement on EV Fires.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 companies attended Quarterly EMS training
2:56 p.m. – Engine 27, E28, E29, and BC5 responded to Highway 108/Kennedy Road east of Oakdale for a report of a motor vehicle accident. E29 arrived and found two vehicles involved in a traffic collision. One occupant was trapped inside a vehicle with traumatic injuries, and four patients were found with moderate injuries. One patient was declared deceased at the scene and four patients were transported to local hospitals. E9 provided coverage for the City of Oakdale and the Oakdale Fire District. CHP investigating.
WEDNESDAY, FEB. 18
The Technical Rescue Team (Engine 11, Truck 5 and Truck 1) completed monthly team training (shoring).
The MST firefighter academy continued training on standpipe operations in the Double Tree Hotel in downtown Modesto.
Battalion 2: Members of the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District Strategic Planning Committee met at Station 26 to work on developing the next Strategic Plan.
9:01 a.m. – Battalion 2 came upon a vehicle vs. pedestrian at the intersection of Claus Road and California Avenue. Engine 24 and Oak Valley Ambulance responded to the scene. The patient was found to have minor injuries and self-transported to the hospital.
Captain Casey Knee attended the DMC Trauma Symposium at the Gallo Arts Center. Topics ranged from stabilizing orthopedic injuries, assessing and monitoring TBI’s, burn victims – treatment and transport, and cardiothoracic trauma.
TUESDAY, FEB. 17
The MST firefighter academy continued training evolutions at Fire Station 17.
Battalion 2: Crews worked on weekly station maintenance.
Battalion 5: 3:49 p.m. – Engine 28 was dispatched to a solo vehicle accident on Orange Blossom Road. Engine 28 arrived and found a truck that had crashed into a power pole. The driver was uninjured, and PG&E was called for the pole damage.
