Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 10-30-24

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Oct. 22 through Monday, Oct. 28. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, OCT. 28

Battalion 2: Crews completed weekly apparatus checks and cleaning.

Battalion 5: Weekly equipment checks were performed.

8:03 a.m. – OES 4615, CalFire TCU, and BC5 responded for the report of a vegetation fire on Sonora Road. On scene crews found three-quarters of an acre fire with a slow rate of spread. Crews quickly contained the fire. Once CalFire arrived the incident was transferred to them for mop up and for fire cause investigation. PG&E responded as well due to the fire being well off the road under powerlines.

 

SUNDAY, OCT. 27

Battalion 2: Crews completed weekly EMS inventory.

Online training was completed.

Battalion 5: Crews completed apparatus and fire station maintenance.

Crews conducted company level training.

12:46 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27 and BC5 responded to a reported motor vehicle accident on Highway 120 near River Road. Engine 28 arrived to find several vehicles involved with two minor injuries. CHP is investigating.

2:24 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, Quint 22 and BC5 responded to a potential structure in the 200 block of North Stearns (Oakdale Golf and Country Club) for the report of smoke in the kitchen. Engine 28 arrived to find nothing showing and crews began to investigate. Crews located a smoldering fire inside a wall in the kitchen and worked to extinguish and overhaul the area.

11:42 p.m. – Engine 28 responded to a medical aid for a subject not breathing. Crews arrived and provided ALS care for 17 minutes on scene and obtained ROSC. The patient transported from the scene to a local emergency room.

 

SATURDAY, OCT. 26

Battalion 2: Crews spent part of the day completing station maintenance.

Battalion 5: Crews worked on station and apparatus maintenance.

E27 and BC5 attended the trunk or treat event in Oakdale at Poppy’s Place.

Engine 29 attended the Valley Home Harvest Festival.

 

FRIDAY, OCT. 25

Battalion 2: C Shift personnel rotated through the RFTC for annual blood work.

Crews completed Type 3 apparatus checks.

5:39 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine 7, Engine 27, Engine 28, Engine 3, Engine 9, Engine 21, Squad 11, Truck 5, Quint 22, Medic 1, BC5, BC2 responded to a commercial structure fire on Patterson Road in Riverbank. An elevated heat exchange oven was malfunctioning and on fire inside the can production line. Fire had extended outside of the oven and into the roof structure as well as below the oven. Crews rotated for approximately three hours in order to contain the fire and cool the oven’s temperature down. Two employees of the company were evaluated at scene by ambulance and AMA. The cause of the fire was determined to be an equipment malfunction during normal operation.

Battalion 5: Modesto Engine 29 gave a station tour of Station 29 in Knights Ferry to Kindergarten students.

 

THURSDAY, OCT. 24

The technical rescue team performed a team wide training located at Gallo. Crews made multiple confined space entries with Gallo’s team.

Battalion 2: Fire Engineer Bryon Baker successfully passed his Stanislaus County EMS Agency Paramedic Accreditation Orientation.

Crews completed daily equipment checks and online training assignments.

Battalion 5: 3:45 p.m. – Engine 28, E27, Q22 and BC5 responded to a vehicle fire in a carport threatening a mobile home on Lon Dale Road. Crews arrived and were able to extinguish the engine compartment fire before it extended to the carport.

 

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 23

Companies rotated through the RFTC for their annual blood draws in preparation for the annual physicals.

The Modesto Fire Department’s HazMat Team participated in the three-day training WMD summit in Sacramento. Modesto was the lead team with Fresno Fire and Sacramento County Bomb squad. The training simulated a WMD attack in Sacramento and El Dorado Hills. The FBI, DEA and US Army 95th civil support team were also part of the scenario as well as several other fire and law enforcement agencies.

Battalion 2: Engine 26 provided a Fire Safety demonstration at the California Avenue Elementary School in Riverbank.

Battalion 5: 7:07 a.m. – Engine 28, E27, E26, E23, E24, Q22, BC2 and BC5 were dispatched to a report of a working structure fire on Fifth Avenue in Oakdale. Crews arrived on scene and found a single-story house with smoke and flames out of a window on one side of the house, which also ignited a carport. Crews set up for an offensive fire attack and confined the fire to the kitchen and a back hallway. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

4:53 p.m. – Engine 27, E28 and BC5 responded to a grass fire behind a residence on Lon Dale Road in Oakdale. B28 arrived on scene and had the fire under control in a few minutes.

 

TUESDAY, OCT. 22

Battalion 5: Crews rotated through annual blood draws at the RFTC as the first phase of annual medical physicals.

The Hire-back Committee met to discuss the current staffing process of the fire department.

11:45 a.m. – Modesto Grass 4615 and BC5 responded with CalFire TCU to a vegetation fire on Sonora Road. Crews arrived and confirmed it was a permitted Ag burn and the responding balance was cancelled.
