The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Dec. 30 through Monday, Jan. 5. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, JAN. 5
Battalion 2: Stanislaus County REMS UTV Train the Trainer Class was held in Station 24’s first due today.
Monday apparatus inspections were completed throughout the battalion.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s and completed mandated Target Solution assignments.
Crews conducted Monday apparatus checks and station maintenance.
SUNDAY, JAN. 4
Battalion 2: Crews attended First Due Report writing training at the RFTC.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s.
Crews completed mandated Target Solution assignments and conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
SATURDAY, JAN. 3
Crews conducted training prepping for the upcoming Captain and Engineer promotional exams.
Battalion 5: Crews conducted engineer training at the RFTC.
11:50 a.m. – Engine 9 was covering Oakdale and dispatched for a public assist. During a walk, a dog had become trapped along the steep riverbank just west of the gun club. The owner attempted to assist the dog but could not climb out of the steep and slippery area. BC5 and Stanislaus CSO and a deputy arrived to assist. The call was upgraded to a technical rescue bringing Truck 1, Truck 5, Rescue 11 and Medic 1. Crews made access and set up a rope system for access. Stanislaus water rescue 26 launched and were downstream as a safety measure should anyone fall into the Stanislaus River. Crews were able to secure the dog and then the owner and brought them up with a rope system. No injuries were reported.
3:04 a.m. – Engine 26, BC5, and Truck 5 were dispatched to assist Escalon Fire for a reported vehicle into the canal on East Combs Road in Escalon. Crews were cancelled enroute.
FRIDAY, JAN. 2
Battalion 5: Engine 28 and E29 conducted Engineer’s and Captain’s training in preparation for upcoming promotional exams.
Engine 27 trained on rescue rope systems.
THURSDAY, JAN. 1
Battalion 2: 6:52 a.m. – Engine 24, Engine 23, Quint 22, and Battalion Chief 2 responded to Hickman Road for a vehicle accident with person trapped. Engine 24 arrived and found a single patient that was self-extricated from a rolled vehicle. They provided treatment with assistance from the ambulance.
3:57 p.m. – Engine 24, Engine 23, Quint 22 and BC2 responded to Meikle Road for a vehicle into the canal. Engine 24 arrived and used a ground ladder to access the single patient in the canal that had self-extricated from a rolled vehicle. The canal had less than a foot of water. The patient was treated by fire medics and ambulance transported him to Doctors Hospital with minor injuries.
Battalion 5: 6:25 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27 and BC5 responded to an injury accident on Highway 108 and Orange Blossom Road in Oakdale. Two cars were involved with one minor injury.
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 31
Battalion 2: Battalion 2 companies trained with central square at Fire Station 22 in anticipation of the new program coming online.
Battalion 5: Engine 28 trained with the equipment and operation of their rescue apparatus at their station.
TUESDAY, DEC. 30
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s, completed mandated Target Solution assignments, and conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Battalion 5 crews finished up their year-end work.
Engine 29 conducted engineer training for Firefighter Voss.
6:30 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 29, and Battalion 5 responded to the report of an injury accident at Milton Road and Highway 4. Engine 28 arrived on scene with Oak Valley Ambulance to find a two-vehicle accident and checked for injuries. Crews took off the driver door to provide easier access to the patient and assisted with patient care of the victim. The patient was transported to a local hospital for further care.
4:31 a.m. – Engine 26, E7, Q22 and Battalion 5 responded for a potential structure fire in the 2800 block of Don Rafael in Riverbank. Engine 26 arrived on scene and found light smoke in the residence and upgraded to a working structure fire. Crews located a small fire in the attic and extinguished it quickly, confining it to the area of origin. Crews did a great job of salvage during the operation.
