The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Jan. 20 through Monday, Jan. 26. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, JAN. 26
Battalion 2: Captain Crabtree began teaching an in-house Driver Operator 1A class today. Classroom portion and cone course driving with the Type I and Type VI engines.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 companies completed weekly apparatus and equipment maintenance.
Engine 28 and BC5 attended training at the RFTC in preparation for the upcoming Captain’s promotional exam, today’s topic was Truck Company operations.
12:53 p.m. – E28 and BC5 responded to the 700 block of Post in Oakdale for a report of a male suffering from a heart attack. E28 arrived and found a male that was unresponsive. After approximately 20 minutes of high-performance CPR and ALS care, the patient regained pulses and was transported to a local hospital.
6:26 p.m. – E29 and BC5 responded to Highway 108/Tulloch Road to assist Cal-Fire TCU with setting up a landing zone for air ambulance.
SUNDAY, JAN. 25
Battalion 2: 9:27 a.m. – Engine 24 and Battalion 2 responded to the 13000 block of Bentley for an unresponsive person. E24 confirmed the subject was deceased. Stanislaus Sheriff’s Department is assisting the family.
Battalion 5: 8:07 p.m. – Engine 11, Engine 7, Engine 26, Truck 5 and BC5 were dispatched to assist Escalon for a working residential structure fire in their city. Upon arrival crews found a two-story home with heavy fire in the garage that had spread in the walls to the second floor. The fire was contained in 45 minutes. There were no injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
SATURDAY, JAN. 24
Battalion 2: Crews performed Saturday drills in their FMAs.
Battalion 5: Engine 28 trained on forcible entry techniques at the Station 17 training facility.
FRIDAY, JAN. 23
The Technical Rescue Team conducted Tower Rescue Training at Fire Station 6.
Battalion 2: Crews completed outside station maintenance. They also completed weekly Type III and Type VI engine checks.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s and completed mandated Target Solution assignments.
Crews conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Congratulations to Engineer Kevin Coffee on his certificate for 5 years of service with the Modesto Fire Department.
Crews conducted a multi company drill at the RFTC. The drill focused on Engineer pumping evolutions for the upcoming Engineers test as well as hose estimations and stretches for our new firefighters.
8 p.m. – Engine 27, WR28, WR24 and Battalion 5 responded to a water rescue in the City of Oakdale behind Hollenbeck Court for the report of two victims stranded on the North side of the river. Engine 27 made access from the 1200 block of Hollenbeck court to find two victims stranded in a tree on the river. Due to heavy brush on the North side of the river Water Rescue 24 assisted E27 with safely transporting the victims back to the South side of the river and they were walked to safety. The victims were evaluated by Oak Valley Ambulance at the scene.
THURSDAY, JAN. 22

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 21
Today, we assisted with implementing the Central Square Computer-Aided Dispatch system at SR911. The new system will allow for faster emergency response times for first responders in Stanislaus County.
Battalion 2: All MDCs have been updated and are currently operating on our new Central Square CAD platform.
Battalion 5: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews worked on completing annual online training.
Engine 29 completed apparatus checks and station maintenance at Station 30 in Valley Home.
Engine 29 trained on ground ladders.
10:35 p.m. – Engine/Water Tender 27, Engine 28, Engine 29, Engine/Water Tender 23, Engine 24, Quint 22, Battalions 2 and 5 to Stearns Road for a working residential structure fire. First arriving crews found an arcing weather head on a home, with fire extending into the roof and interior of the home. Crews initiated an aggressive attack and limited the damage to small portions of the roof and interior wall. Companies remained on scene until PG&E could secure the power lines. The FIU was on scene conducting a cause and origin investigation.
TUESDAY, JAN. 20
Battalion 2: Crews completed their annual SCBA fit testing.
Battalion 5: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Crews rotated through annual fit testing for SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus).
Battalion 5 managed resources during the second alarm fire in 21’s FMA.
9:14 a.m. – Engine 26, Engine 27, Quint 22 and Battalion 5 responded to the 6300 block of Roselle for a potential structure fire. First arriving crews found a large paint bucket shaking machine that had overheated, catching the wall and insulation on fire. The paint can in the machine also broke open, spilling its contents in the area. Workers used dry chemical extinguishers to put the fire out. Crews secured the power to the machine and worked to remove the wall sheeting and insulation. On site staff used their spill kits to contain the paint.
