Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 1-10-24

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Jan. 2 through Monday, Jan. 8. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, JAN. 8

Battalion 2: Crews completed the weekly apparatus checks on the first out engines.

Engines 24 and 26 spent time studying for the upcoming paramedic school.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.

Engine 27 and 28 trained on rope rescue systems and victim packaging.

Companies performed a pre-fire walk through of the H-B Building, focusing on the upstairs residential units and the basement.

6:05 p.m. – Engine 26, Engine 7, Truck 5 and Battalion 5 responded to Horsetail Falls Court for a potential structure fire. Crews arrived on scene with an arcing electrical outlet inside a one story, single family residence. Firefighters secured the power and removed the refrigerator. A wall outlet was the source of the issue. Crews were able to isolate the lone outlet and ventilate the home.

 

SUNDAY, JAN. 7

Crews completed apparatus checks and station maintenance.

Battalion 5: 5:36 p.m. – Engine 26, E27 and Battalion Chief 5 responded to Patterson Road and Eleanor for a vehicle accident with injuries. E26 was first on scene with two vehicles off the roadway. All occupants were evaluated on scene for minor injuries. All occupants declined transportation. Law enforcement remained on scene investigating.

10:01 p.m. – Engine 9 and Truck 5 were dispatched for a vehicle into a tree on Roselle Avenue, near Sylvan Avenue. E9 arrived after AMR and advised there was one patient pinned in. T5 arrived and was quickly able to get access to the patient through the driver’s door. He was transported to a local hospital. MPD was on scene investigating.

 

SATURDAY, JAN. 6

Captain Bob Bettencourt retired from the Hughson Fire Department after volunteering with the department for 50 years. There was a great show of support from the community, and several MST – Modesto-Stanislaus Consolidated-Turlock – personnel and County dignitaries also attended the gathering.

Battalion 5: Crews trained on low angle rescue equipment and the “spec pack” for patient packaging.

Weekly station maintenance was performed.

 

FRIDAY, JAN. 5

Battalion 2: Crews performed monthly maintenance on all type three and six apparatus.

Training was conducted at the station level.

Battalion 5: Station 27 personnel managed the C-Shift vacation/holiday selection process.

Crews rotated through the annual SCBA flow testing.

 

THURSDAY, JAN. 4

The Fire Chief conducted an operational briefing for all Modesto Fire Crews.

Battalion 2: Crews focused on station and apparatus maintenance.

Quint 22 received new tires.

Battalion 5: 1:47 a.m. – Engine 26 and Battalion 5 to Sierra Street in Riverbank for an EMS CPR call. Crews arrived on scene to find the patient in cardiac arrest. ALS care was initiated, along with pit crew CPR and the Lucas Device attached. After 36 minutes of care with no change, the patient was declared deceased by a doctor at MMC. Oak Valley Ambulance and SO remained on scene.

Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Companies completed station maintenance.

Crews completed weekly apparatus checks and station maintenance at Station 30.

 

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 3

Battalion 2: E22, E5, E26, Q18 and T5 took the opportunity to train at Cardozo Middle School in Riverbank, as a building on the site is being demolished.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Companies completed station maintenance.

Crews completed vacation and holiday picks for B Shift.

Battalion 5 assumed resources and coverage during the multiple working structure fires this morning in MST.

 

TUESDAY, JAN. 2

Battalion 2: Engine 21 visited SR911 as part of a sign-off in the captain’s task book.

Battalion 5: Crews completed apparatus checks and station maintenance.

Vacation and Holiday picks for 2024 were completed for A-Shift.
