The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Jan. 31 through Monday, Feb. 6. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, FEB. 6

Battalion 2: 9:38 p.m. – Engine 24 was dispatched to an unknown type of fire in the 400 block of F Street in the City of Waterford. As they arrived a deputy in the area advised that there was smoke coming from an apartment. The fire was upgraded to a potential structure fire which added E23, Q18, and BC2. E24 arrived and had fire showing from a second-story window. E24 assumed IC and requested a commercial working fire be dispatched. The upgrade sent E9, 21, 22, 28, T1, and BC5. E24 was able to secure their own water supply and pulled two attack lines. Red Cross arrived and assisted the displaced occupants of the apartments. The cause is under investigation.

Battalion 5: Crews completed Monday apparatus checks and station cleaning.

The station 29 crew finished mounting the scene lighting on Water Rescue 29 to assist when conducting night operations.

7:29 p.m. – Modesto E28 and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries in the 800 block of Yosemite Avenue in Oakdale. Upon arrival there were two vehicles involved in a head on collision, all occupants were out of the vehicles and refused care.

 

SUNDAY, FEB. 5

Battalion 2: Company training and task book signoffs completed.

9:38 p.m. – A working commercial fire dispatch to the 200 block of South Santa Fe in Station 22’s area turned out to be a cooking fire and the balance was canceled.

11:44 p.m. – E23 and E27 responded to a solo vehicle accident at Claribel and Wellsford. The ambulance on scene advised one walking wounded and fire units were canceled.

Battalion 5: 9:25 a.m. – Modesto E27, E28, T5, and BC5 responded to a potential structure fire in the 400 block of North Lee Avenue in Oakdale for a report of an oven on fire. E27 arrived with nothing showing from an apartment building. Upon investigation, E27 located a malfunctioning oven and removed it from the residence; the responding units were cancelled.

10:30 a.m. – Modesto E27 and E29 conducted hose and ground ladder training.

 

SATURDAY, FEB. 4

Battalion 5: E27 and E9 participated in probationary firefighter training at Station 17.

7:31 a.m. – Modesto E29 responded to the 27000 block of Cooperstown Road for a smoke check in the area. E29 arrived on scene and found a vehicle well involved in fire. E29 was able to extinguish the fire with no extension into the surrounding vegetation. E29 remained on scene until CHP arrived.

9:50 a.m. – Modesto E28 responded to the 10000 block of Pioneer Avenue for reports of a dumpster on fire. E28 arrived on scene and found a large commercial size dumpster on fire on the property. Due to limited access issues Grass 26 was requested to the scene to assist with extinguishment.

 

FRIDAY, FEB. 3

MST Battalion Chiefs attended the Modesto Police Active Shooter Drill.

Battalion 5: Crews completed apparatus and equipment checks.

Firefighters trained on PPE ground school and SCBA donning and doffing.

Engine 28 and Battalion 5 attended the reopening of North Third Avenue in Oakdale after several months of construction.

 

THURSDAY, FEB. 2

MST crews rotated through the RFTC for Captains meetings led by the Fire Chief and several Deputy Chiefs while engineers and firefighters participated in engineer training.

Battalion 2: Crews completed company training.

SCFPD briefing was held on B shift.

6:15 p.m. – Stanislaus Quint 22, Modesto Engine 9 and BC2 responded to a vehicle accident on Church Road south of Parker Road. Q22 arrived to find one vehicle vs. a tree. One patient was treated for minor injuries.

Battalion 5: 6:59 a.m. – E28, E27 and Battalion 5 were dispatched to the area of Lon Dale and Walnut Avenue for a vehicle accident. E28 arrived and reported a vehicle accident with one minor injury. CHP investigating.

E29’s crew conducted engineer training focusing on apparatus parts identification.

 

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 1

All crews conducted monthly station supply and EMS equipment inventory.

 

TUESDAY, JAN. 31

MST personnel participated in a Captains assessment center for promotional opportunities in Modesto and Turlock.

MST Command staff hosted another round of Captain’s meetings.

Battalion 5: Modesto E27, E28, and E29 conducted a walkthrough of the old basement bowling alley in Oakdale. The focus of the training was on basement fire strategy and tactics.
