Local, national rise seen in pump prices

Average gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 1.6 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.28 per gallon on Monday, Nov. 10, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto. Prices in Modesto are 7.3 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 11.2 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has increased 6.5 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $3.72 per gallon.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $3.84/gallon yesterday while the most expensive was $4.99, a difference of $1.15/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $3.29 while the highest was $8.86, a difference of $5.57/gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has risen 4.8 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.03/gallon. The national average is down 4.0 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 0.8 cents per gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.

“The national average price of gasoline edged higher last week, with the vast majority of states seeing prices climb,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Refinery issues in the Great Lakes and West Coast have kept prices elevated, and gasoline inventory data from the government showed another large weekly drop in supplies, which has temporarily propped up prices.”

Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back 10 years show the highest Modesto price of $5.12 was on Nov. 10, 2022 while the highest U.S. average for Nov. 10 was $3.81 per gallon, also in 2022. Lowest average Modesto price of $2.52 per gallon was on Nov. 10, 2016 and the lowest U.S. average was $2.10 per gallon on Nov. 10, 2020.

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $4.29/gallon, up 3.0 cents per gallon from $4.26; Oakland - $4.53, unchanged from last week; and San Jose - $4.46, down 2.6 cents per gallon from last week’s $4.48/gallon.
