Preschool Story Time and Wiggle Worms will be off-session in August and resume in September.

Our “Little Scientists” S.T.E.A.M. Program for ages from Kindergarten to 8 years old, will be on Wednesday, August 28, at 3:30 p.m. Listen to a book, then explore the world of science with fun and interesting hands-on activities in our “science lab!”  Sign-ups are required in advance. We will have two Lego Days this month on Thursday, August 8 and August 22, at 3:00 p.m. Kids can unleash their awesome creativity and we will display their masterpieces in the library. Join us for building fun!

Computer Classes for Adults are back. Learn the basics of computer and internet in this small personal setting. Classes will be offered on Tuesday mornings, August 13, 20, and 27, all starting at 10:30 a.m. Please call the Library at 209-847-4204 for info and be sure to reserve your space. Each session is limited to four people.

Also, if you are an adult interested in learning or improving in Microsoft Word, you will want to join our class on Thursday, August 15, at 6 p.m. And, Microsoft Excel will be the focus of our Thursday evening class on August 22, at 6 p.m. Please call the Library to sign up, space is limited. 209-847-4204.

Our Wee Move And Play program, featuring unstructured imaginative play for little ones, 5 and under, will be Monday, August 12, at 11 a.m. Parents can help their children learn social skills and have fun at the same time.

Please bring your little ones for some Toddler/Preschool Dance Fun on Monday, August 26, at 11 a.m. We’ll be “rockin’ out” to some of our favorite Story Time music as well as trying the hula, the Twist, or perhaps, a Limbo dance!

Please plan ahead for our special “Read To A Dog” Event coming on Tuesday, August 13, from 3 to 5 p.m. This unique program gives children a relaxed non-judgmental atmosphere to practice reading aloud. Drop by the Library and read to a certified therapy dog. No sign-ups are necessary in this program designed for independent readers up to age 12. Books are provided or child can bring their favorite. The dogs seem pretty happy with any child’s choice!

We will be hosting our ongoing Oakdale Library Book Club for Adults. Join in to meet, mingle, and chat with other literature lovers. Read and discover new books, genres, and authors. This month’s selection will be “The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend” by Katarina Bivald. Please stop by the Library to sign out a copy, then join us for a great discussion on Tuesday, August 27, at 11:30 a.m. New members are always welcome.

The Friends of the Oakdale Library are the main sponsors of so many of our programs and prizes, for example, the wonderful bicycles given as prizes in our kids’ Summer Reading Program, and the great gift baskets and gift cards to Oakdale eateries for our Adult Summer Reading Program winners. They constantly promote and encourage the great gift of literacy at all levels for everyone.
