Preschool Story Time sets the stage for Kindergarten with books, flannelboard stories, fingerplay, and music geared to children ages 3-6, and caregivers. We will meet every Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. for fun and learning. Please join us and get a jump on early education!

Our wonderful Summer Reading Program begins May 21 and will continue all through June and July. Come by the Library and join in the fun activities, prize drawings, entertaining programs, and read what you enjoy as we celebrate together. Come in and pick up your “reading log” on our kick-off date, May 21, and receive an extra “Prize.”

Join us on Tuesday, May 7, at 6 p.m. Our “Community Conversations with Veterans” continues with a very special “STAR PARTY.” We come together to gather stars from retired United States Flags. Each special star will then go into care packages for veterans and deployed service members. Non-profit veteran organization, “American Veterans First,” will discuss how they are bringing people, organizations, and resources together to improve the well-being of all veterans, first responders, and their families. Additionally, as part of this great program, we will be collecting “Socks For Those Who Served.” You can help a veteran in need by donating a pair of new unworn socks. We will be gathering these throughout the entire month of May. Socks collected will then be distributed by American Veterans First.

Our popular “Little Scientists” S.T.E.A.M. Program for ages from Kindergarten to eight years old, will be on Wednesday, May 29 at 3:30 p.m. Listen to a book, then dive into activities related to parachutes. Sign-ups are required in advance, underway now. Please call the Oakdale Library at 209-847-4204 for info.

Our Computer Classes For Adults will include a Microsoft Excel class on Thursday evening, May 2, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Our Internet Basics class will be offered on Tuesday, May 7 at 10:30 a.m. Please call the Library for info and be sure to reserve your space. Children will enjoy making beautiful “Flower Bouquet Pens” for our special “Mother’s Day” Children’s Craft on Wednesday, May 8, at 3:30 p.m. They will be able to give a gift both useful and lovely. And these pens will be so unique, Mom won’t forget where she set it down.

Our Wee Move And Play program, featuring unstructured imaginative play for little ones, 5 and under, will be Monday, May 6 and 20, at 11 a.m. Parents can help their children learn social skills and have fun at the same time.

We will have two Lego Days this month. Kids can create their own masterpieces using our fabulous Lego collection and we will display these great works in the Library. The building fun begins at 3 p.m. on Thursdays, May 16 and May 30.

Please plan ahead for our special “Read To A Dog” Event coming on Tuesday, May 14, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. This unique program gives children a relaxed non-judgmental atmosphere to practice reading aloud. Drop by the Library and read to a certified therapy dog. No sign-ups are necessary in this program designed for independent readers up to age 12. Books are provided or child can bring their favorite. The dogs seem pretty happy with any child’s choice.

Children, ages 5 to 8, will want to join us for our ongoing “Book Worms Kids Book Club.” On Thursday, May 23 at 3 p.m., we will feature our special book club for kids, where children will listen to a story, discuss and share, and then do a fun related craft or activity. No need to check out the book ahead of time, just come in and enjoy book fun especially for this age level. This time, “Dragons Love Tacos!” and so do we.

On Tuesday, May 28 at 11:30 a.m., we will be hosting our regular Oakdale Library Book Club for Adults. Join in to meet, mingle, and chat with other literature lovers. Read and discover new books, genres, and authors. This month’s selection will be “Until Tuesday” by Luis Carlos Montalvan. This book adds another deep perspective to our U.S. Veterans focus this May with a great story of “a wounded warrior and the Golden Retriever who saved him…” Please stop by the Library to sign out a copy. Then join us for a great discussion. New members are always welcome.

The library is at 151 S. First Ave.
