Knights Ferry School will be losing two teachers at the end of the school year. Ellen Wearin is retiring and Paige Jones is resigning to be a stay at home mom. One replacement has been selected, Mrs. Jackie Hedricks.

Wendy and Greg Burns have returned from Kona, Hawaii where they celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. They enjoyed doing a lot of nothing. Their son Landon has graduated from the DeHarte Technical School with a certification to do heat and air and building maintenance.

A big congratulation goes out to Shawn Spani on her Smokey Bear Poster win at the State Level. Shawn came in First for fifth grade in the whole state! Way to go Shawn!

Lee and Mary Sue Shearer enjoyed listening to daughter Victoria Krippner, along with Seth Gehrke and Tim Harms, sing at the “Most Wanted Wine” tasting room in Oakdale Friday night.

The Knights Ferry Parent Teacher Club had a very successful dinner and auction Saturday night. Because of the weather, all was held indoors. Rich Marr was the D.J. and Scott Pimentel was the auctioneer. There were many great silent auction gifts and many great raffle prizes. The classes at KFS made projects for the live auction. Kindergarteners put their handprints on a picnic table set painted by hand including words inspired by the Kinders visits to the Community Garden. The first graders made a scrapbook on what they wanted to be when they grew up complete with pictures. The second graders had a rustic wooden box and a framed 3 ft by 3ft photo of the Flour Mill in the Ferry, built in 1848. The third graders had a mirror framed by a river rock mosaic. The fourth graders had a family fun basket chocked full of goodies. The fifth graders had a fun filled ice chest of games and gift cards. The sixth graders had a basket filled with games and gift certificates. The seventh graders had a picture of the Covered Bridge in a wood frame personalized with their names. The eighth graders had a black and white photo of the Covered Bridge with a frame made from 100-year-old barn wood and personalized with their names. Auction Chairperson was Shelli Borba, with Lori Lubeck Corporate Auction Chairperson. The Borba family bar-b-qued the meat, which was outstanding!

Congratulations to Nathan Van Ryn and the Academic Decathlon Team at Oakdale High School, they finished 8th in the State of California competition! The OHS district housed the team at the Hyatt in Sacramento while they competed. The team’s goal was to finish in the top 10, something they had done only once before, and they did! Nathan brought home a personal medal, bronze, in Social Science. Yea Team!

The River’s Edge is open for business. They are open from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, closed Monday, and open at 5:00 p.m. for dinner the rest of the week.

Saturday morning (March 19) dawned with cannon fire, and rain. It cleared some and the battles took place around the Covered Bridge. The Spaghetti dinner that evening, put on by the Knights Ferry Community Club, was a big hit. They fed over 250 people. The tables were decorated in red cloths and the flower bouquets by the Garden Club. It looked very festive. The over 100 raffle prizes drew many ticket holders. Many community members helped to make this evening a success. Thanks to all!
Sunday morning dawned with rain and wind and destruction. The wind was horrible during the night and the Civil War re-enactors pulled up stakes on their tents and left. It rained all Saturday night and Sunday and they canceled Sunday’s show. Larry Hayes said the wind blew his dog kennel away. Cliff Howse had two riverside trees go down, taking the fence, and lost part of the flowering pear in the parking lot. Phil and Lisa Frymire lost their Orange tree. Laura and Dave Simons had their boat cover blow over. The Burroughs on Orange Blossom had a large tree fall on their property. Lawn furniture and garbage cans were blown about. What a storm!
