Ken and Linda Morris and granddaughter Rhiannon have returned from three weeks in Yellowstone. They stayed in Gardiner, Montana where the highest temperature was 68 degrees. They went to the Gardiner Rodeo, Buffalo Bill Museum and Rhiannon played in the snow. They enjoyed Bozeman and the Museum of the Rockies where there was a hands-on display for children. On the trip they saw six badgers, 43 bear sightings, and a mother elk with her two twins. They also enjoyed some horseback riding.

At the MAC meeting, Oakdale Rural Fire Chief Lee Winton said there have been some brisk fire activities in the area, with water rescues even brisker than fires. People are not wearing flotation devices and using cheap rafts and they end up hanging from trees to be rescued. The river flow could be going up so the water could be even more dangerous. The Fire Department will increase staffing for the 4th of July weekend. Sheriff Adam Christianson reported on the department’s balanced budget. They are working on having a community officer again. The Sheriff reminded people to secure everything, nail it, lock it, chain it, alarm it etc. because of the increase in crime. Under old business, Velociter Wireless High Speed Broadband spoke on what they have to offer. Their company, located in Escalon, is expanding to rural areas that have slow dial-up. They need towers placed to provide line of sight to customers. Call 838-1221 if interested in this so they can plan for tower areas. This sounds like a good thing, and fast!

The Knights Ferry Community Club Annual Picnic will be Thursday, July 7th at 6:00 p.m. at the pecan grove in the Knights Ferry Rec. Park. The club will provide the meat and drinks. Those with last names beginning with A-M bring sides or salads, N-Z desserts or chips. You do not have to be a member to attend.

On Friday, July 1st there will be Karaoke again at the River’s Edge. Last time it was a blast. Come out at 7:00 p.m. and enjoy the entertainment. On Saturday, July 2nd, the stage will showcase the musical talents of Joe and Vicki Price.

Shirley Willms McPhee, Barbara Willms Barbagelata and Carolyn Willms Lopez held a bar-b-que at the historic Willms ranch home. Honored guests were Betty Desmond Knibbs, her husband Dennis and daughter Denise Caldwell and granddaughter Mary Mae Caldwell from Rocklin. Betty was born in the house in the Ferry on Cemetery Road where it makes a sharp turn to Sonora Road. Her older sister was Marge Willms, Carolyn, Barbara and Shirley’s mother. Other family members and friends enjoyed reminiscing and catching up on family news. The guests enjoyed a great meal and rides on Lloyd Stueve’s stagecoach.
