Jim and Diane Boyer and grandson Nick have returned from a month’s road trip. They drove to North Carolina and worked their way back. They took in Graceland, The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. They also toured some Civil War areas. They drove in the Great Smoky Mountains and Diane said they were great. The trip also included Dollywood and Branson, Missouri where they watched three shows. A harrowing part to the trip was a torrential downpour of rain where cars were pulling off the road because they could not see. The radio station said there was six inches in one hour! When they were approaching the Missouri River, the road they were on had no other cars. Jim didn’t know what was going on until they came to the signs where the Missouri River was flooding everywhere so they had to detour. The heat in Missouri caused them to cut their trip short. It was brutally hot and muggy. They put 7000 miles on the car and were glad to be back home until the next trip!

This week has seen many river rescues, almost one a day. The Russian Rapids upset some but a lot get hung up past the Horseshoe area where the river has a second channel and with the water so high, the trees are in the water and snag the rafts. Rescue personnel have been calling the helicopter to search from above for the missing people. Today, Sunday, there were two grass fires along Highway 108.

Vacation Bible School was a lot of fun for the children. With a beach theme, the children made beach towels and swam at Nancy Redden and Michelle Muller’s pools. The children enjoyed the creative snacks provided each day.
