Welcome to the world Kyle Coleman Mangante, born December 20th to Troy and Brandi. Kyle weighed in at 10 pounds, 9 ounces. Proud Knights Ferry grandmother is Kathy Mangante.

Before Christmas your reporter spent the morning making Christmas sugar cookies at mom’s (Audrey Laningham) house. There were four generations in the kitchen, mom, me, my daughter Cindy Davis, her daughter Gwyn and for the first time granddaughter Claire Krippner joined the cookie makers. When done, there were tins of decorated cookies and lots of flour and sugar everywhere! What fun!

The annual Knights Ferry Community Church Christmas Eve Service was held at the River’s Edge. Pastor Leverne Tanis gave the welcome and opening prayer. Young pianists played Christmas Carols and the church choir sang “On a Still and Silent Night.” Pastor Tanis delivered the “Good News” and then a procession of children and live animals came to act out the Christmas Story. Participating children were Alec and Jordan Ray, Amber, Kylie and Caleb Coston, Stephan and Jake Mendes, Nathan and Alex Martinez, Morgan Timmerman and Brandi and Katie. The Children’s Handbell Choir played “Away in a Manger.” Coral Frias signed to the song “The Miracle of Christmas” which was sung by Peggy Van Vliet. Debbie Hoekman was the accompanist. As the candlelight was passed to each person, all sang “Silent Night” and then exited for refreshments.

Bill and Kay Martinelli had a great Christmas; all 11 grandchildren were there. Rossi and Will Hoeffer came down from Idaho. Pete and Jake Studer came (with parents Angie and Richie) from Switzerland. Logan Martinelli, Hanna Holland, Vincent, Troy and James Peterson, and Kaeli and Degan Sweet all came from Knights Ferry. The Martinelli family organized a softball game at the school on Christmas. It was Richie’s first time playing ball. Chris Peterson and Jason Sweet were the team captains. The game ended with a tie, 16 to 16. They had so much fun they decided to make it an annual event. When dinnertime came, the turkey was done just when the power went out for hours. Many area families ate by candlelight on Christmas!
