Knights Ferry News 7-5-23

Back in the late ‘50s to early ‘60s, retired colonel John Kelly brought his family from Southern California to own and operate the Knights Ferry Resort and Campground. His wife Marie planted the grove of trees that still stand in the campground. The Colonel and his family ran the resort for almost 10 years before they moved on. The Kelly family held a week-long campground reunion and a riverside Celebration of Life for the youngest daughter Teri, who passed away last fall. The eldest daughter, Patricia, her husband, Tony, and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews and greats have been visiting with Dolly and Will Haskell-Kelly and those few folks in the area who still remember them from long ago.

On June 3rd, the Willms family held a family reunion celebrating 170 years since the ranch was settled by John R. Willms. The reunion was attended by 80 family members and ranch friends who enjoyed visiting, a house tour, old memories, and lunch. Relatives came from Ohio and Wyoming, including Robert Willms Righter, the author of “The Willms Ranch - A Family Saga”.

Sharon Page’s services were well attended both at the cemetery and at the Clubhouse. Sharon was fondly remembered by family and friends. Sharon’s youngest son, Jeremy read her eulogy and it was a beautiful piece that was sentimental and a dash of humor just as Sharon would have liked it. Before her passing, Sharon wrote down her preferred hymns for her service and they were sung by Randy, Mandy and Charlie. Sharon’s dedication to the history of Knights Ferry and to the restoration of antiques will not be forgotten.

We had a power outage over the weekend and it was extremely hot! I can’t think of a convenient time for a power outage but it was quite the test as temperatures were well over 100 degrees!

Don’t forget to attend the Community Club’s Freedom Picnic at the Clubhouse on Thursday, July 6th starting at 6pm. The Club will provide hot dogs, chips, and punch and they ask each family to bring a side dish or a dessert to add to the meal. Everyone is invited.
