Knights Ferry News 6-7-23

Knights Ferry School is officially out for the summer. The 8th grade graduates were celebrated with a graduation celebration complete with blue cap and gowns and a gold tassel! One very special addition to the Knights Ferry graduation was the inaugural Cameron Schlicht Encouragement award. Mr. Russell explained the award would be presented to the 8th grader who exemplified the same kind of encouragement and kindness on campus as Cameron once did. Cameron’s children, Cole and Jocelyn presented the award to Nathaly Ramirez. Cameron passed away earlier in the school year in a very tragic accident while working around the home. Cameron was one of my dear friends and it was tragic, to say the least, but it is so sweet to see his name live on through family and fond memories.

Congratulations to the 8th grade graduates: Julian Arias, Maya Camara, Naya Morua, Ruby Novotny, and Nathaly Ramirez. The class chose a theme based on a quote by Martin Luther King, Jr: “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” The class presented the school with a memory box for the Junior High students to write a memory down and store for the future. The guest speaker was Natalie Brockman and the tradition of Class Wills continued to add a little comedy to the evening where Naya willed her brace pain and Julian willed all his “class fines” to Taylor. I had a chance to chat with Ruby Novotny and she spoke of the 8th grade class friendship and how they were all there for one another. Overall it sounded like a great sendoff of the 8th grade class as they celebrated the end of the year with a trip to Six Flags and Funworks!

On Saturday, the 50s Roadhouse hosted a Car Show where they had an awesome variety of classic cars, live music, a raffle, vendors, and a pinup contest. A portion of the proceeds are set aside to benefit local veterans. The car show had a special appearance by the Victory Bombshells, a NorCal based group of patriotic Pinup volunteers. The Victory Bombshells hosted the Pinup contest.

The highly anticipated celebration and reception of Fred Dolling serving as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of California for the Independent Order of Odd Fellows took place last weekend. The luau theme had top notch decorations, delicious pulled pork and all the fixings, and a dessert table fit for any Grand Master! The party was attended by nearly 130 friends, family, and Odd Fellow members. It was full of celebration, laughter, and speeches by dignitaries. My favorite part was the entertainment that included money masks and bathrobes and a lot of jokes!
