November 7th annual Pumpkin Roll all day. November 9th School Board meeting at 6:00 p.m. November 14th - Salmon Festival at the Army Corps Park. November 23rd Community Feast put on by the Junior High. November 25 Thanksgiving.

At the MAC meeting Oakdale Rural Fire Chile Lee Winton discussed the fire budget. There will still be brown out scheduling pattern at the stations. This year there was no big acreage fire but now that the weather is colder there have been an increasing number of structure fires (clean those chimneys). If you are trimming trees or shrubs, you can put the trimmings on the pile behind the fire station and they will burn it for you. The new river rescue boat (donated by OID) is very state-of-the-art and will last a long time. The fire personnel will again be selling tri-tip sandwiches at the Pumpkin Roll. The California Highway Patrol reported all is quiet. Deputy Tim Reed from the Sheriff Department discussed concerns in our area. The public needs to be aware of the next round of budget cuts. $6.5 million will be cut from the department, equaling 24 Patrol Deputies. This will impact everyone! The Board of Supervisors meeting on this subject was November 2nd (too late for this column). Raul Melendez from the County spoke about the Board of Supervisors meeting. The stancounty.com has a link to the Public Works on the North County Corridor. The MAC will take a winter recess and convene in January.

There was a Haskell Reunion and birthday celebration for Owen, who turned 87. Owen’s niece Patsy came from Taos, New Mexico and great niece Maureen and her son Chase came from Santa Clara. There was the large local family in attendance also. They all enjoyed the Bar-B-Que at the stone house.

The KFS school children paraded through the town for Halloween last Friday at noon. There were some very good costumes. After the parade the winners of the pumpkin decoration contest were announced. First place for their Mr. Potato Head at the Beach went to Kaitlin Burke, Tatyn Silva, Sidney Crawford and Emalee Wilson. Second place for their Zebra went to Shaela Borba, Eden Cassinetto, Stella Flodman, Hayden Cassaretto and River McCarthy. Third place for their State Fair went to Ashley Caron, Meghan Caron, Brenden Thompson and Josh Munoz. Glad I didn’t have to judge them!

At the Oakdale Rural Fire Board meeting in the Ferry Chief Lee Winton told of the training session for the probationary volunteers. Lt. C.J. Crim put the program together and the district now has seven new volunteers that are cleared to cover the stations and use the equipment. Also there are five “probie” volunteers getting their paper work together. Roof repairs will be happening at our station to fix a leak.

Twin Cypress Mobile Home Park held their second Halloween party on Saturday. The Neighborhood Watch put it on. There was a parade around the park, with winners for costumes, face painting, egg toss (always popular) games, food, piñata, and of course the Haunted House. This year they expanded to an empty space and went all out with many rooms full of eerie things. The whole park helped in some way and it took four days to build the haunted house. The children had tons of fun!

Seth Frias was laid to rest Friday, with services at River Oak Grace and interment at Burwood Cemetery with full military honors.
