At the Knights Ferry Community Club meeting last Thursday, Oakdale Rural Fire Chief Lee Winton was the speaker. In his first year on the job, Chief Lee found the budget most challenging to work with. The department is gathering new volunteers and has a new rescue boat donated by the Oakdale Irrigation District. It will be stationed in Knights Ferry. Chief Winton told how the new rotation among the fire stations is working and how the Oakdale Fire Department and Oakdale Rural are working together. In the business session, it was voted to purchase new gutters for the building. Rental dates were gone over, with the Zero party, Pumpkin Roll, Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas meeting, Christmas in the Ferry and the school program on the books. All enjoyed the many desserts provided by the members. The next meeting is a dinner meeting on October 7th.

Carol Davis has returned from a vacation in Sisters, Oregon where she stayed with college friends. While there Carol enjoyed shopping and the art shows. It was a fantastic time.

Lis Whalen became a great-grandmother August 16th. Josiah Harris arrived weighing in at 6 pounds. His parents are Brandon Harris (Lis’s grandson) and Candice Fleming of Modesto.
Bob Hunter became a great grandfather for the seventh time with the arrival of Cambria Knudtson, born August 23rd to Brady and Meredith, their 5th girl! Bob and Lis will be buying a lot of baby trinkets.

After nearly 75 years serving the Knights Ferry community and surrounding area, Orange Blossom 4-H is ready to open enrollment for the 2010-2011 program year. The official open house — the Ice Cream Social, will be held Monday, September 13th at 6:30 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall on Main Street in Knights Ferry. The 4-H youth program is open to all who wish to participate, ages 5-19. Community education and service projects include Citizenship, Clover-buds (primary 4-H), Computers, Fishing, Beginning Golf, Horses, Llamas, Meat Goats, Scrapbooking, Rabbits, Sewing/Quilting, Shooting Sports, Show Dogs, Speech-Public Speaking and Swine. Knights Ferry School and Stanislaus County Office of Education Health Services will again provide flu shots and flu nasal spray vaccines on October 11th from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Price is $20 for adults and $10 for children.

On September 25th there will be a Classic Car Show at the Oakdale Rodeo Grounds from 9-5 to benefit Oakdale’s new Community Aquatic Therapy Pool. There will be a breakfast by the Lions Club, raffles, trophies, vendors, food, etc. Sounds like a fun day.
